we want to go run some trails in montrose, but we dont know anything about them. what kind of rig does it take? how difficult are they....compared to Indy. Also, if someone could list some of the trails in order of difficulty that would be great. It would be better for us to run these so we can avoid the zoo in moab. thnx-greg

Clutch Creek 7, Cactus Ridge 8, Calamity Canyon 8, Die Trying 10. Uncompahgre national forrest is where all these trails are located along with some easier ones that are not in Montrose. Go to www.4x4trails.net and search for Uncompahgre under the USFS selection.

I ran scratch & dent in Montrose with 33s and lockers F/R and didn't need to winch. It is the least difficult of the extreme trails there but lots of fun. No body damage if you are careful. Supposedly there are five extreme trails, do a google search for montrose and off road and one site lists order of difficulty.
Although Die Tryin is the most extreme, Topless was unrunable when we were there due to a huge washout. I turned around at the hole that you could put a dump truck in.

I went there for the Warn RCCs and thought the trails were GREAT. I want to go back and goof off. There was a 4x shop in Grand Junction that was around a lot, and the muffler shop in town was owned by hardcore wheelers, also saw AORs toy truck there. Have fun!

I don't remember how to spell it but the offroad shop was McPherson offraod. Get a hold of them because they were very helpful during the RCC there last year. There is some really cool and some nasty stuff there. If you go get some shots to post. Here are a few I have. http://www.respite.org/images/cj66dean/montrosejole4.jpg http://www.respite.org/images/cj66dean/montrosejole2.jpg http://www.respite.org/images/cj66dean/montrosekevin1.jpg

The guys at Mchpherson Off road will definately help you...
All the trails are a few miles outside of town, and run in washes that circle around each other...
My experience with a TJ trash lock rear 33" MT/Rs
Scratch and Dent No problem... enough scare for me
Cactus Ridge & Topless, Wish I had 35s and lockers (do now)
Die Trying, No chance, boulders the size of my house, 38s and
everything that goes along with them.
Rocker guards, skidplates absolutly...
Thats just my stupid opinion, But I sure going to get people to disagree...
Overall a great place to wheel. A few minutes to town, great trails, great weather (except for the dust).
Most of trails are unmarked! Go with someone who has been there or a local.

Western Slope wheelers or something like that. Contact them I'm someone there will help lead you around. Atleast that's what I am hoping. We are going out there in september for a week. Might run over to moab to get a trail or two as well.

Trevor and Craig are the owners of mcPhereson offroad...they'
re AWESOME guys. Helpful and generous to a fault. As for the Pipe Shop fags...well anybody who has a muffler shop put on their lift for them gets the respect they deserve.
