Hey guys... I have a high mileage 5 speed ZF trans in my F250 2x4 with a powerstroke and am having problems fully engaging reverse, most times it pops out.... I have replaced the clutch/brake pedal assy, trans shifter assy(bushings worn and sloppy) and clutch feels ok and other gears work ok too... it feels like it is only going a little way onto the teeth of the reverse gear and most times as soon as you start letting off the clutch it "pops" out.. sometimes it will kinda clunk a little and go all the way in... Now the clutch feels ok but this truck has high miles and I dont know the condition of the clutch but it drives and shifts all other gears good... any particular quirks with this ZF trans? Does anyone know where I can get a picture of the trans like a schematic or blowup.... thanks

Go to www.zf-group.com They have a diagnosis page for ZF trannys that will tell you exactly what is wrong.

It sounds to me like you have worn shift forks and it's not engaging the gear fully.
Could be wrong, but, it does sound like it to me.

F100 That is exactly what I was thinking.... I will be cracking open the trans soon....
