Alright, this thing is killing me. It all started in November sometime when it quit running. So I stripped down the topend to check it out since I never had. Finally put it back together this week with new topend. So, it started right up, it didn't want to idle, though. So I twisted up the idle setting and rode it for a minute. Lowend was hesitant. The next day I pulled the carb and stripped it completely apart. Checked all the jets and passages, everything looked cool. Reset the air/fuel screw and the idle and adjusted them both. Got it set to where it idles good on it's own, but the lowend is still hesitant. So I rode for about an hour today like that. If you try to takeoff right out of idle it wants to bog. Kinda have to feather the clutch for just a second. Anyways, did some laps around the local track then hit another trail and it started to lose lowend power a lot worse. Came back and parked it and went to pull the plug and the cylinder was hot as shit. Couldn't even pull the plug, it was too hot to touch. This is not normal, right?? Seems like the bike was overheating. So looking through my Clymer manual the matching symptoms in the troubleshoot charts are: Engine will not idle, Engine overheating, and I guess engine will not accelerate. I think the only things that carry through all 3 symptoms are Ignition timing incorrect and faulty carburetor adjustments/jetting. I'm getting real frustrated cause it seems like there could be multiple problems here. Anyways, let me know if you guys have any ideas or where I can start based on what I've already done. Thanks

I once had a KX 80 with similar problems. I thought that the rings were bad, because it would barely run, no power and wouldn't idle. It turned out to be the coil mount was cracked causing it not to ground properly. It was still showing a spark, because that was the first thing I checked. 2 strokes tend to fowl out plugs as you know. The spark just wasn't hot enough to handle the load. I would have never thought to check it, and it just barely caught my eye. We welded it up, and it fired right up. Hopefully this will help.
