Sometime when I am coasting/gently, I hear a fast clicking racheting sound...it kinda sounds like i'm trying to throw it in 4wd w/o the hubs being locked...kinda jacked up...any ideas?

Have you checked all your u-joints, although they tend to make more noise when you're accelerating. Worth a look though.

What kind of truck and what year? Could be your xfer case linkage out of adjustment. Could also be brakes, u-joints, center caps on your wheels....A bunch of possibilites..

Well it was my tranny, something in my 700R4 ate shit...I was just dring down College Ave here in Fort Collins and when I slowed down for a red light, I heard the clicking then when I went to step on the go pedal...NOTHING...engine just reved as if it had no load and I didn't go anywhere...So I tried to put it in another gear, nothing...it wouldn't go in any gear...and I had to kill the to get the tranny in park...then I had a guy help my push it and we were able to push it in park...talk about :flipoff2: up...But luckily I have another tranny sitting at home so I just need to get some    and friend together and throw it in....any ideas what this :flipoff2: edup opertaion can be attributed to?

Before you go and r+r the tranny, check the transfer case linkage as Ranger suggested. Sounds more like you are between ranges, almost like neutral as you say you can push it in park. I had a similiar problem with my Jimmy. Hit a bump and it would partially engage 4 hi and make a heck of a racket. Push the t case shifter hard up to 2 and the noise would go away until the next bump.

I would definatly check your T-Case linkage. If you had to shut the engine off to put the truck in park (At least that is what I thought you were trying to say), that means that the tranny was spinning, but the t-case was in neutral.
If all else fails convert it to a stick. :D :p

The grinding is the sign of a 700R4 taking a dump....:( Another sign is the "overdrive" kicking in/out......Don't ask how I know.....been there done that...... :p
