i've read through the other thread's this morning, and want to make sure that all rumor's are put to rest, and that there's good information getting out.

Nick DID NOT have his arm amputated...

ok. nick has a broken humerous, approx 1-2in above the elbow. the doc's installed a plate in his arm.

he had an artery in his left arm damaged, a graft section of artery was removed from his right ankle area. he also had damage to other arteries in his arm, but were re-attached without grafting. there was skin grafted from his right leg to repair the left elbow area.

he had a large prtion of skin on his right arm removed, though no broken bones. skin was grafted from the right leg to his right arm.

he's got a broken femur, it was a closed break, there were rod's installed to fix his leg.

his pelvis is fractured. nothing has been done yet because it is not a major fracture, and he is immobile as it is.

he had a few lacerations on other part's of his body, and a fracture in his right knee cap area.

he has fluid in his lungs and is in an oxygen chamber to get his lungs to begin working properly on there own. he will most likely be hospitalized for several weeks.

the only thing that could appear to be long term is a few nerve fibers going to his hand were damaged. no one will know what controls those nerve's operate until he's awake and able to work with Physical Therapy.

now the good news is: his spine, neck head and internal organs appear to be good. he was wearing his camelback water pack, which was partly full and most likely was a big reason why his back was not hurt. his helmet only had one mark on it, so his head did not take a big hit.

His dad arrived in SLC yesterday morning, and will be with him until he goes home i am sure. myself, Mike Shaffer, Peter Mazzoni & Family were all there yesterday to see him in the ICU, he was very heavily medicated but did open his eyes to familiar voices so we think he knows we were there for him.

i will post up a room number for anyone wantign to send flower's card's etc when he's in a permanant room.

he's got his 1st place trophy, and his BFG Winner hat with him now, two of his favorite things! everyone who told me to let him know they were pullin for him, i did, and he did open his eyes when i let him know. he know's were here for him and that we'll do whatever it takes.

i'd like to thank the Browns, the medical crew, and the UROC staff the helped make sure nick was attended to safely and qucikly. the Factory Tubular Crew for shuffling people around, since we're all out of towners... And to Ranch for coming to the ER immediatly after it happened. Camo & the P4x4 crew for teh updates. And for everyone who's called me to check up and to offer things, my phone was blowing up on my drive home last night, if i don't get back to you right away, don't think i forgot, i took notes while driving!!!

Glad to hear he is doing better. It was on the local news last night.
I am amazed that they could put that arm/shoulder back together!!
I too was there and horrified by what I saw.

Anyone (Lance/Camo/DSI) have a contact # for his family/friends that are in SLC now?
I would like to offer any help I can! Run them around, offer a bed, some company, rides from the airport, what ever!! Please email me marc.milner@gmail.com with any info.

There are a lot of people here that are willing/wanting to help anyway we can.

Hopefull when he is up around, he can do some rehab PBB surfing with that hand....I even have a spre laptop I can take up to the hospital.

we are setting up a paypal acct, and i've got several LARGE vendor's onboard for a raffle, but i've also got 4 day's of work to catch up on, give me another day or so to get thing's setup and i will have the info to post.

i spoke with Nick's dad earlier and he's got a rental car, and brought his lap top and is staying at the hospitality house provided by the hospital.

i will post a room number for anyone wanting to send card's flower's etc to him as soon as he is assigned a room. he's back and forth from ICU to the isobaric chamber right now. i will be getting update's from his Dad as often as he's in an area that he can call from. and will post what i know, as soon as i know.

ALL support is DEFINATLY apreciated, and as RJ said, Nick is one strong SOB to pull through that like he did... the shop's just got a weird feeling today without him here... no 50's no talking like arab's, and no fireworks...

He has my # and will call if he needs anything from us locally. Most you local guys know how to get a hold of me, I will start a thread for local help if/as needed on RME as soon as it comes back up.

I have known Peter/the Mazzoni's my entire life. I was there when this tragic accident happened. It is true what Lance said about Pete feeling bad if he stepped on your toe. This is incrediably hard for him, and a major turning point in his career as a professional rock crawler and human being. They both need your support -- in a sense Nick was the physical part of what happened, and Peter represents the mental part.

Pete is coming back into SLC today or tomorrow. Locals look out for him (I know you will). Everyone else, please keep being coachs, mentors and supporters. Thanks DSI for setting the medical information straight. This is a turning point for the sport as well. Safety regulations belong in the hands of the drivers and spotters, the ones that put themselves out there.

We all know our hearts go out to Nick and he is obviously in the best of hands so I'll simply say we're all rooting for him and a fast recovery.

This message is to Peter. Pete, my life changed 3 years ago. I had a good career in a sport that I loved and dominated. I had another 8 to 10 years as a pro athlete with a good salary and an amazing life when my ankle was destroyed. It all changed overnight. Now, life is just as good, only on a different path...my life isn't the same, but still, just as good with a new direction. I have a good friend that just lost a leg...also a pro athlete. He says that what he imagined would be a major handicap is now just a nuisance and his life is as fulfilling, even without what he dreamed would be his only path in life...yes, his path changed and he'll be the first to say that because of his love of life, it is just as good, only different than he expected 2 years ago. Many people can tell you stories of devastation that changed everything in their life's plans and some may even compare in the extreme to Nick's current situation but I have to tell you not to worry...Nick's got a heart of gold, was doing what he loved, knew the risks, and his life has now taken a new direction. You need to remember that and not put it upon yourself. Pete, life's unpredictable...no changing that. If you could, it'd be boring. Keep your spirits up, support our friend, and get back in that car and drive it like it belongs to me...

What does Nick need? What would his family & friends want for him, since they can't be here all the time? We could round up some DVD's for him or anything of that sort, if he's able to watch them.

Has Nick been moved to a room yet?

No, his condition worsened yesterday. He developed pollyps in his lungs and some spots showed up in the x-rays that they suspect are bruising. They did a biopsy on the pollyps. He can't go through another surgery until his lungs clear up. He is now on the ventilator full time. His mom and sister flew out yesterday and other relatives are on their way as well. You can check the webilt board for more info.

Spoke with Pete yesterday. He is flying in today. He said he has things handled for now, but will call if he needs anything....I will give you, one eye and Greg a call....
I have also spoken with Nick's Dad and Sister, they will let us know if there is anything we can do.... For now Nick is still in ICU and most of what we can do is for the family and friends.

Honestly I wish there was more we could do....I feel helpless.

This could have been any of us. I can not even count how many close calls I've had as a driver/spotter and how many more I have seen! It is great to know that this community is willing to do whatever we can!!

I will run by the hospital today and get back to you all later.

I don't know any of you, but this speaks to me no less. I have been to more than one Dez race where Sal or whoever has had to address those involved about a accident to "one of our own". The reaction is always the same, and as is the case here, amazing. There is an outpouring of love and wanting to help that you wouldn't expect, but now I guess I do expect it. The comradarie, and good natured competitive spirit should, and does, kick in during these times.

This sport has its' own inherrent risks, and it is up ALL those involved to be vigilant, and that includes the crowd, the spotters, the drivers, and the sanctioning bodies. And even then, fate can conspire to create these situations we all dread.

So Nick, all I can do from here is to pray, and to salute you for following your dream. God speed on your recovery.

I went to the hospital at lunch and spoke with his Dad/Sis/Mom. Great people! Very nice and holding up well. Nick was in having the grafts and wounds checked and bandages changed. They have been able to decrease the oxgen from 100% to 41% which means his lungs are working better!! The docs took a culture of the polups on the lungs, but it takes 48 hrs to grow the culture. So they will not know until tomarrow if the polups are from infection or bruising. They are also trying some different antibiotics. He is still on a ventalator and sedated. Everytime they lift the sedation, he trys to pull the ventalator out. They said his rate increases when the family talks to him. He knows they are there and that we are all pulling for him.

He is in LDS hospital (not church owned now, Just it's original name) The ICU is the 6th floor. Only family is allowed in the room, but there is a visiting room where the family ussually is, right off the elevator.

I suggest donations to the account DSI is setting up rather than flowers. Do you really think nick wants flowers :flipoff2:

Hey im really glad to here nick is getting better. For those who don't know this is Garrett, spotter for team 777#. I talked to DSI that night after the award to see how nick was doing. I really hope everyone gives alittle to the fund for Nick. When i hurt my knee in St George, Nick came running up asking if we found a spotter, He is really into the sport and is a real sportsman. I also think spotters and drivers should stick together in times like these. Im sure almost every spotter has had a close call. This time something happened and we knew it would some time with our sport getting larger and more competitive. I just want to wish the best to Nick and his family and please keep up with the updates.

(As per the Mazzoni's request)

This has been a life-turning event for everyone involved. In some way or another, we were all affected by this accident.

It's mystifying how tragedy can bring people together, and also begin the healing process. Everytime we read a new entry; a new heartfelt prayer and/or message of wisdom on Nick's thread for both Nick and Pete; a little more light gleems into the situation.

This sport is filled with nothing less than a community of couragious athletes.

We are so gratefull for the people that drove us to the hosiptal. When we were all in a state of shock, we were assisted and guided. We are ever so thankful to you. The paramedics, the hospital, the doctors ...

And again, just thankful for every small word.

OK locals, I just got off the phone with Nick's Dad and Sister. The docs are trying to reduce the sedation and pain meds, and bring him to a more coherent state. His Dad thinks he would like some music to listen to. I have a discman and will burn some cd's to take up there. But, I was hoping someone might have a small radio/cd player we can but in the room. Can't be too big....he is still in ICU. And if anyone has mixxed cd's they can burn copies of, that would be great. Amanda (his sis) says he likes punk (cruiseroutfit you listening?) and some country. Let me know, or run by the hospital....

Not much change in Nicks condition tonight, just trying to reduce the sedation....Now it is time for Nick to fight through this!!!!

THANKS to ALL
I'm not very religiuous, but I will say an extra prayer for Nick tonight, he will need all the strength he can get!!

Marc

I've got a laptop they're welcome to borrow if that'll help. (I've spent more time in hospitals than I care to admit, including that one) It's not exactly a screaming machine, but adequete, esp. for dial up use from that hospital. Marc, get in touch with me and we'll figure out how to get it there if that'll help.

We have a radio/cd player on the way.
Nick's dad asked me to get AC/DC Thunderstruck and Survivor Eye of the Tiger for Nick. But I can not access the download sites from work. Does any one have them? Can you attach them to an email? Anyone local that has them and can burn them? I will come pick it up from you.

Thanks

To all supporters:

We all know that Nicholas is a survivor and has the will, strength, and determination of 100 men! He obviously has the love and support from all over the country and our prayers will give him more strength every minute.

Susan, did you forget about your old name of "shop chick"?

*Update* Jim called and left me a message this morning. Nick is still critical , but stable. He is now controlling his breathing as far as when he breathes and whether it is a shallow or deep breath. The ventilator is only being used to get oxygen into his lungs. He wakes up every now and then, when they back off the meds and he immediatley goes for the ventilator. The infection in his lungs still needs to clear up before they can take him off of the ventilator, pull him from sedation and finish repairing his broken bones. All in all he is making good progress. Pete is back in SLC and has been spending time with the Socha family and Nick, when he can.

Just me again. I left the hospital about an hour ago. Things are looking up. Nick is breathing on his own. He is still on the ventalator because of his oxygen needs. But HE is controling it. They lifted the meds for a while, but he start trying to move to much and spit out the bite gaurd for the ventalator. He is responding by squeezing his hand, and other responses. All the graphs and what not are healing well. The culture from his lung did not grow anything and the xray of the lungs is looking better.

Nick's family and Pete and his wife wanted to THANK EVERYONE for their prayers and support.

AND Thanks to Big Sgt, Brett, Russ and ALL of the Utah FourWheelDrive Association for the great boom box!! The remote was a good call!!!!
Thanks to RockMonkey for the MP3's. Nicks Dad said those are his favorite songs! Thanks to all the rest of you that have called and offered your help!!

We're staring to see the light so I'm going to put myself out on a limb here and hope for a little humor and cheer. The lyrics to Willy Wonka's "Cheer up, Charlie" always remind me of the Mazzoni's house, watching movies while growing up; and they never fail to make me smile. So ... ahum ...

Cheer up, Charlie
You get blue like everyone :(
But me and Grandpa Joe can make your troubles go away
Blow away -- there they go
Cheer up, Charlie
Give me a smile
What happened to that smile I used to know?
Don't you know your grin has always been my sunshine
Let that sunshine show
Come on Charlie
No need to frown -- deep down you know the world is still your toy
When the world gets heavy, never pit-a-pat 'em
Up an a'em boyS
Someday, sweet as a song Charlie's lucky day is going to come along
Til that day you've gotta stay strong Charlie
Up on top is where you belong
Look up Charlie
You'll see a star, just follow it and keep your dream in view
Pretty soon the sky is gonna clear up Charlie, cheer up Charlie, do;
Cheer up Charlie
Just be glad you're you. :)

(don't tell me that song didn't grab ya. We were all hopeful the underdog would get the last Golden Ticket).

Today is the start of another day in Nick's long journey. Yesterday was
good. They let Nick rest all day (he slept most of the day) after his previous day's attempt of weining from meds to try and remove the ventilator.
Hopefully today all readings and indications are there to remove it. I know
Nick would like it out of his throat.

He's getting fystee---Yesterday he managed to use his tongue to manipulate
his chew blocker enough to evenually spit it out. He then began chewing on
the ventilator hose.

His eyes were wide open for the first time yesterday. It was so good to see
him come around even if it's only for a little while. He responded by wiggling
his toes and squeezing my hand on command when asked if he knew us.

Keep praying---Nick has a long journey to get out of the woods still.

Thanks again to everyone for all the support and prayers. I read thru the
entire update post today since I couldnt sleep (got in at 3am and up by 6).
You guys far exceed my wildest expectations for all the love, support, prayers, and help you've provided.

If/when I get more time I will post an update or at the very least will call and
update a couple of Nick's good friends who can update you all. My time is spent constantly with Nick in ICU leaving little time for anything else.

Keep praying for him, he has a long way to recover still.

I've never actually met Nick, but I feel like I know him. He's semi-local, so I've watched his buildups closely here on PBB and talked to plenty of people who do know him. I've never heard/seen/read anything bad about him, only good things.
I was just telling my wife the other day that I was going to try to have him build me a cage for my Runner soon (like the one he built for OOP's). I guess that will have to wait. :(

Nick- sorry to hear that your body got its ass kicked, so to speak. :( Fortunately, it doesn't sound like your spirit will take as much of a blow. :)

Good news!

Hey Nick, I need some advice on what could be a life changing decision.

I've suspected for some time now that my girlfriend has been having an affair. The usual signs. Phone rings, I answer, someone hangs up. She started going out 'with the girls' a lot recently although when I ask which girls it is always "Just some friends from work, you don't know them". I always look out for her taxi coming home but she always walks down the drive although I can hear a car setting off. As if she has got out of the car round the corner. Why? Is it not a taxi? I once picked her mobile up just to see what time it was and she went beserk and screamed that I should never touch her phone again and why was I checking up on her.

Anyway, I have never approached the subject with my g/f. I think deep down I just didn't want to know the truth but last night she went out again and I decided to check on her. I decided I was going to hide behind my car which would give me a view of the whole street so I could see which car she gets out of. It was whilst crouched behind my car that I noticed rust around my rear wheel arch.

Should I take it into a body repair shop or should I buy some stuff from the local auto shop and try to repair it myself? :flipoff2:

Man, I gotta say, I am not a very religious person but I was saying prayers for Nick from about the 5th or 6th post.

I am also not a very emotional person but I will also say that after about the 2nd or 3rd page my heart started tingling and I started getting teary eyed by the show of love, friendship, caring and concern for Nick.

It is a terrible thing what he went through and I pray that no other spotter ever has to go through the physical pain again of what Nick did. I also pray that nobody else ever has to go through the mental and emotional anguish that his driver must be dealing with(according to the way everyone describes him).

To his spotter Pete, keep in mind, Nick wouldnt have been there if he didnt love the sport and enjoy working with you as the driver. You sound like an awsome human being who cares greatly about Nick and feels terrible for what happened but you cant let it affect you that way man. It is tough to imagine dealing with that as I would feel equally as badly but I know for a fact that Nick doesnt blame you one bit. Keep your head up Pete.

You guys are a great team and we ALL want to see you guys back on the circuit together.

Speedy recovery to everyone physically and emotionally and although I know you would never need much from a guy in Kansas, if I could I would help out.

Nick I don’t really know you, or very well even, but I know we’ve been at the box at the same time and talked a few times. My sympathy and prayers go out to you, your Family and Friends. Our community of wheelers hands down just freakin rules. Like a well-oiled machine our community has stepped up to the plate to take care of a fallen brother in a time of tragedy. It’s truly amazing to read about the support already given and that which has been offered to a close friend or even a stranger, whatever the case maybe. It’s enough to choke up an ornery asshole like myself and bring a tear to the eye. KEEP UP THE FIGHT!

Hi. My name is Becky Socha. I am Nick's cousin from PA; Jim's niece. After hearing about this accident, I was so stunned that I could barely respond. The one thing that I did say, however, was that I absolutely KNEW that Nick would be fine. It is really terrific to see all of these people who don't even know Nick wishing and praying for his recovery. Although my family and I will not be able to go to SLC, I am sure that when Nick returns to Cali, we will go and see him. In the meantime, I don't need to wish Nick well, as I KNOW that he will be. But my prayers are still there everyday, as I know that this is very difficult for Uncle Jim, Aunt Roberta, and Amanda. As someone said on their post, Nick is one of the strongest "fawkers" they have ever met. Me too...My love to my family, as well as those who are helping them and praying for them...

I am out here in Cincy and I am still thinking about the accident. I was not there to see it (thank goodness), I had already left to come home. Nick I hope for your speedy recovery. Even though I have never met you (only seen you compete) I am going to say a prayer for you right now.

I also wanna take this time to rub it in that an East coaster won the SC. Just kidding, I loved watching everyone compete and the vehicles were amazing. I am currently the D.J./Announcer for the Extreme East (have been since the beginning of ErOCC) and I love the progression of the sport, but I hate to see a thing like this happen. I have made it official that I want an Official's position for next year. This accident, and other things I have been seeing, have really got me thinking and scheming. I promise you (Nick) I will do my part to prevent something like this from happening again. Rest assured.

An update from Nick's Dad:

Nick is getting stronger and fiestier everyday. Today during rehab they had
him sitting up on the edge of the bed for about 10 minutes working on his
body balance. He was able to hold/balance his upper body for about 8 of the
10 minutes without help then got tired.

The fiesty shit pulled his 2 nose tubes out while we were gone and threw them on the floor. These tubes go all the way down to the stomach and intestines for feeding and medicines. This happened while his sister and I
left during the mandatory 90 minute no visitor timeframe when they change
shifts for the nurses. The new nite shift nurse came in and found the tubes
on the floor. He made a deal with Nick that he would only put one back in IF Nick would begin eating more of the real food they have started to bring in
since yesterday---Nick agreed.

Nick is still in the Level 1 trauma ICU (Been there for 8 days). They are ready
to move him to a Level 2 ICU (lower severity) as soon as a bed becomes
available. The doctors still have concerns with some readings that they are
attempting to remedy by supplemental IVs and different medicines. Dispite
this it sure is good to see Nick alert, able to respond, and achieving more
each day. I agree with everyone on the board that know him and say he is
one strong dude. He has proven just how strong he is to be able to fight
back from some very severe injuries.

I or Nick will post an update later when time permits. Thanks again for all
your love, prayers, and support. Nick really enjoys it when his sister reads
all the updates and well wishes everyone has posted here. It has brought
many smiles to his face and a few laughs also (especially the one about the stripper).

I'm very happy to hear of Nick's progress. Although I've never met Nick, I feel like I somewhat know him since I work with his dad, Jim. As well as working with Jim, I've wheeled with him a few times too. Anyway, I just want the whole ToyFamily to know that I've been wishing, hoping, and praying for a speedy recovery for Nick. Ever since I heard about the accident, its been in the back of my mind and I think about Nick at least several times a day.

Again, I'm very glad to hear that Nick is progressing well. And Nick, do what the doctors and nurses tell ya, they are doing their best to help you recover and get back home as fast as possible. And from what I'm reading, they probably want to get rid of you as much as you want to get rid of them :D

And, Jim, if there is anything I can do for you here at work, let me know.

Hey Nick (and Family)-

I just read all the threads on your incident and your road to recovery. I'm glad your coming along so quickly. Nick, you remind me of me when I was in the hospital from my accident. The nurses kept giving me morphine through my IV and I told them I didn't need it and ripped the tube out of my arm several times when they went for the button... I finally put it under my pillow so they couldn't get it while I was sleeping...

Stay Strong and you'll get through this. Your family and friends are very supportive and we're all pulling for you. You've got a long road to recovery it seems, but it gets shorter with every passing day- trust me I've been there....

I, like many others here, have not many any of you personally but we are very sincere in our thought and wishes for everyone. I hope you know we all are pulling for a full and quick recovery. We want you all back to 100% and back to doing wht you love to do -wheeling and having fun.

Sincerely,
PSD

wed to dr. wed, he said the left femar with the rod is healing well as is the compound fractured left arm (fixed with plates & screws). but gave me the go ahead to put weight on that left leg. So today I stood for the first time. My leg was weak but I was able to get up and down a few times. I have lost 20 lbs. so far 140, I had to cut 12lbs in high school to wrestle that weight my sr. year, so I need to get some strength again.

they've been doing wound theropy on my left arm, putting it in a whirlpool and cleaning the rock rash and skin graph scabs. It turns out that I coached the Wound Theropists son in jr. high wrestling, she said I had a big impact on him. She has been fitting me in when the schedule is full and taking good care of me.

the next dr. appt. is in 2 1/2 weeks and hopefully I'll be cleared to put weight on both legs (pending pelvis fracture, and humerous fracture) I have to get another full set of x-rays and a MRI on my knee. I've probably had over 30 x-rays this month.

Kick ass Nick! I am so stoked to keep reading about your progress. Keep the updates coming!

Dustin, when I was getting slowly taken off the ventilator after 6 days, they put me on some medications that made me halusinate (sp). One night I woke up (or thought I did) and I saw a big Red Bull truck pull up to the back of the hospital to drop off a shipment just outside my room. I watch a redbull helicopter land and I saw your tow rig pull up with both rigs on it.

In my vision, you all pulled up to the rear of the hospital next to this huge drainage boulder strewn gully

So I see all these extreme (Red Bull Sponsored) mountineer guys, snowboarders, skiers all prepping gear and eventually taking off in the heli to ski some near by mtns. . You and Becca were practicing for SEMA on the rocks and doing a photo shoot.

Tavis Pastrana was jumping his bike and his rally car was up on the hill doing a photo shoot.

All my nurses were outside my window watching and I couldn't get out of my bed.....I said "hey I know them, bring them in here", they just told me to go back to sleep, and go back to watch.....It sucked.

back to reality....I was in ICU on the 6th floor, my dad propaply read me a list of the donations for the raffle and I took a bit of reality and added somee good stuff...if you like that story you have to hear my "tig welding monkeys" story.

larryboy

sounds like things are healing up,nick. i put some door stickers on a truck today and got down into a "crouch"...not a full squat yet. this knee is taking forever to get better. i met a guy at smog and go that did the same thing as me and says it took 2 years before he felt like his knee would stay under him.

Please take up Dave's offer of the wheelchair race and kick his ass, he is getting cocky and needs to be taken down a peg. :D
If there is anything you need or want, let me know, I'm not far and I remember how to get to your parent's house. :D (Just don't ask for a ride to Reno, even tho I am allowed to drive there again. ;) ) LOL

Amanda ;)

hey Dustin, what more does this guy have to do to get a shirt? I don't think you'd want him supporting your competitor :flipoff2:

Dave, I got everything. I broke a stub shaft and called it a day. I was up taking pictures of the rest of the crew, and saw you pull up by my truck. Nick was hoping to get the calendars to chart his progress and keep track of the days, but I think everything else made it.

I didn't really take him wheeling, he's not quite ready for that. Getting into a car is still a challenge. He should be failry mobile within a month or so and he's already talking about a road trip. It was good to see him, his spirits are up and he's anxious to get back to building. He's getting pretty damn good with those cutting brakes on the wheel chair, time to start on the front burns.

the only wheeling I'm doing is being pushed up my driveway.....I can't walk but can stand on one leg....and can only push the chair with my right arm....
(NASchair race series contender: go slow, turn left, go slow, turn left)

update and story of the day:

so I went to 4 appointments today physical theropy to stand. Then occupational theropy, to work on straightening my arms and bending my fingers so they don't sieze up. Wound theropy to clean up the left arm some more. And an MRI on my knee this evening.

and after all that I have found out one important mistery....here comes the story:

the phone rings, I say "hello"...several times...no answer. Then some telemarketer says, " goodevening sir, how are you doing tonight" then quickly goes into his shpeal of who he is and what he's selling.....(i don't feel like talking to someone I don't know let alone one who'll talk my ear off about nothing) as soon as he stops talking I jokiingly say, " well, I've got seven or so broken bones and I'm laying in an uncomfortable hospital bed in my living room." I guess I shook the guy cause he quickly responded with, " I'll try another time"

so now you have the secret use accordingly

I am impressed at medical science and your will to fight through these injuries.

I was on the other side of the fence directly in front of the incident when it occured, I thought I saw the first man die in a rockcrawling event but instead I saw how Fuckin tough humans are...

Keep it up!!

The wound theropy has cleaned up my arms and will probably end in a week or so. The skin graphs are looking good (for skin graphs) and there are just a couple of dime sized open wounds on the back of my hand.

The hand theropy is still going. All my fingers wiggle but stll are far from regular function. We're also working on getting my arms straight, the right is about 10 deg off straight and the left is about 30. I'm heading to a hand specialist tomorrow to check out the status of how the nerve is healing and when we can remove the pins and wires. Also to see if I can be reduced to just a wrist splint.

The physical theropy for now is stretching my legs and some simple leg strengthening exersizes for my weight bearing leg. We also work on stability, it's hard to stand with just one bed ridden leg. There is some pain where the break is after I sit from standing, the x-rays still show that there's a little gap in the break but can be weight bearing due to the rod. I'm heading to the ortho Dr. next wednesday and will hopefully be cleared to bear weight on both legs depending upon how the pelvis and fibula x-ray looks. Then learn how to walk again.

Nick,
I figure with all the responses you have received you must be plannig a nation wide I am back tour. So if you ever get to this side of the country (with all the pics I see I don't see why you would) you got a place to stay here when the Nick Is Back Tour comes through my town. It good to see some one make the recovery you have and get so much instant support from the 4x4 community. Good Luck

just got back from the hand Dr., he gave me a smaller brace and wants me to up the hand theropy from 2x to 3x a week and go back in on Jan 6 to check it out, and possibly take out the pins. I got x-rayed and got the award formost pins of the day, I have 11 in my wrist and hand. The Dr. also told me not to get my hopes up to high, I'm luck to have my arm, and my left arm/hand would never be the same.
With such a vague prognosis part of me is scared about the extent of what that means, and how it would limit mme from doing things I love, like fabrication. The other part wants to prove him wrong, I still have a list of many projects to build, and new thing to learn before I die, I guess it's time to learn how to weld with my right hand, MIG & TIG.

You'll prove him wrong, in the meantime I can come down for another brainstorming session on the special TIG glove you were talking about. Did you get a Red Bull shirt yet? Might have to try wearing your No Fear beverage shirt next time :flipoff2:

Nick,
From What I have seen of your progress so far, you WILL prove that Dr. wrong!! Don't let one Dr get you down. Maybe you can just train a monkey to help you....sort of like a seeing eye dog :flipoff2:
