Got a line on a D60 front from a dualie GMC for pretty cheap. WMS on a dualie front is right around 73" isn't it? I got a Ford 10.25 for the rear that has a WMS of 65.5" I believe. Since the rear would be noticably narrower, is there going to be any problems with a front being so much wider than the rear?

A friend of mine drives a 99TJ with Dana 30 in front and a 8.8 in rear, the 8.8 is a little bit narrowed than the Dana, I noticed that when I drove behind him, he said there is no problem with that, hi can drives his rig as well as with the original axles...

8.8s are only 1.5" WMS-WMS narrower than a d30 though...the HP60 and sterling have a difference more like 7". You could just swap to SRW hubs to lose some of that width and get closer to the 65.5"

Pre runners and pro trucks do it all the time. At high speeds they have better steering.

wouldn't it change your turning radius?
I think that is one of the biggest changes you would see. the reason it drives better at speed is because it is constantly trying to straighten the truck out.
if it were narrower then once turned it would increase the turning rate causing the truck to be less stable at higher speeds. keep in mind the racing trucks run way up in the hundred and something mph's.
Ivan stewart was clocked at 140 or 150 in the baja 1000 on one stage.
a lot of the truck run a wider front set up just because it allows them to re-arrange their suspension so they will have more suspension droop during high speed jumping.
but that much difference on a daily driver would look funny at the least.
and drive funny at the worst.
but rims with different offsets would help some if you decide to go that route.
it might look funny though :grinpimp: it would have that backwards shopping cart look. heck who knows you may start a whole new street cruiser craze like the skating thing :rainbow:

I think all IFS trucks have wider fronts then rears. Granted it is only a couple of inches. But it is still wider none the less. Besides it would give your back tires new ground to travel and might actually help with traction. That way each tire is creating its own path. I suppose that might be bad on rock crawls, but in the mud. Might be just the ticket. That way your not following your front tires rut.

I say go for it. Look at your other option: Shorten the front end. Just try it long and if you don't like it all you need to do is shorten everything and move your perches.

Just about every car or truck has a slightly wider front than rear. It's usually only an inch or so though.

so why not just run hummer rims up front, that will even out the difference..
or just wait a get a srw hp60 to match the rear sterling.

I have 62 inches in front and 55" in rear, It looks a little different but it really works very well. I am going to add 1" wheel spacers in rear. Go for it, Good luck.

I'll go with it for now and see how it does. Atleast this way I can get the rig on the trail and fine tune it from there. It's not like I wouldn't be able to sell this D60 if it doesn't work out and buy a SRW D60 front.
I'd just like to have the axles closer in didth so it doesn't look funny while I'm climbing curbs at the mall... :D
