I hate to be the one to say this, but did you search AT ALL? There is a LOT of information out there. Try Hendrix Motorsports, S&N fab, and searching on the board. Try buggy or chassis for a search topic. Good luck.

Maybe I should have been more spacific, I would like to see some pics of builds/ drawings with measurements Start to finish

Thanks

Try to be origanal in design i dont think people want you to copy their stuff down to the button. Just look at the supercrawl comp photos if you wana see pics theres tons of IDEAS for your setup

I dont want to "copy" anyone's buggy I just need some ideas to get me started. I dont even know what wheel base I want to use. All I know for sure is that its going to have a Dana 44 front and 9" rear out of a 78-79 bronco. I will prob. use the 289 engine I have in the shop for the power plant
other than that I just dont know.

What size tube should I use? 1.9"X.090" (have acess to lots of that)
What gage sheets do most folks use for the floor ect?
Auto or manual tranny?

Thanks
Brian

If you just don't know than i wouldn't be trying to build a buggy from the frame up just my .02

look a lot of stuff up SEARCH as much as you can , read what other people have used ask them quetion about things you still need to know

I guess what im asking is what size/sch tube does most ppl use, I have a mental pic of what I want but was wanting some input on what other ppl have done, and as far as "trying to build a buggy from the frame up" I am more than competent in this field. I have build many stock cars , own and run a welding/machine shop, and have numerous state certifications in all phases of welding. Just trying to get some input before I start bending tubes

Thanks

most people use DOM tubing (most people on this site will recomend)
Some use HREW
some still use sch 40
People like to overbuild things around here so its pretty much your decision
also people tend to build their cages out of 1.75 .125wall a lot some times 2 inch
for frame and braces gennerally thicker wall.
for links many even use .25 thickness

id suggest a wheelbase in the 100-110 inch range many people on this site will fight over what is the best wheelbase and there is no magic #

Another thing to do is get a good idea of what suspension you are going to run and what tire size.
AIR SHOCKS
COIL OVERS
1/4 eliptical
Leafs

When I first posted it was because I couldnt find a search button (found out you have to reg. to get that) Have searched and found alot of info. Would still like some input on tranny type tho

Dana 44 isn't going to hold up to big tires in the long run.

Is that 289 fuel injected? If not, better think about propane.

Seriosuly, you may have done other stuff, but it sounds like you still have a LOT of research to do about 4x4s. Don't waste time and energy building something until you learn a lot more.

would disagree, a 44 will hold up to a 35/38's just fine. Especially with the weight you plan to run (buggy). I would recommend coilover, but air shox seem to be popular with buggies now-aday, but Iv'e been told there a little difficult to fine 'tune'. As for frame, I would suggest 1 3/4" .120 min, better to be .188 for the 'structure support' areas. You might want to consider running radius arm setup since you have the 78-79 Dana 44 (there Cast wedge radius mounts) so unless you plan on doing quite a bit of fab work that would be your simplest way to go. As for the motor, I would agree, either go propane or fuel injected, its the only way to go with all the crazy angle you wind up getting yourself into. One again, search keywords like 'propane engine' or 'dana 44 cast' and stuff like that. Good luck!
