Just picked up a 14 bolt and need to tear it down. Got the hub cover off and pulled the axle. Then the snap ring and the locking nut. Now I cant get the bearing to come out. It looked like it is recessed in there somehow. Is it supposed to come out? Or does the whole down brake drum come off now? Need some advice doing that as I have been beating the shit out of them. No matter, disks are on there way. Help.

the drum comes with the hub you probably just need to beat them up more:nuke:

It's:
axle shaft, bend tabs on lockwasher, outer nut, lockwasher, inner nut, bearing. Then the brake drum and all should pull off.
BUT you probably have grooved up brake drums and the shoes are catching. Find an old small flatblade you don't care about too much and put about a 30 degree bend in the end of it. Then you can use that to hold the adjuster arm off the star wheel, thru the hole in the backing plate, and use another screwdriver or adjuster tool to loosen the star wheel and retract the shoes.
THEN the drum will come off. :jeep2:

You want to take the bearing out of the hubs right.
I did this yesterday in like less than 5 min.
use long pliers or what ever you have to get the inner clip out and pry the seal out.
then,

1. seperate the hub from the drum
2. flip it so the inner bearing (smaller one) is on top while sitting on the ground.
3. Get a baseball bat or something similar sized and hammer down on the bearing/w BFH till bearing is pushed out
4. use a punch and hammer out the race for the outer bearing on the same side you used the bat on.
easy:D

the outer bearing on a 14bolt doesn't come out the outer end of the hub. it actually has a big snap ring that you have to get to from the back side. it is behind the outer race. remove the inner bearing and race, then remove the snap ring and knock the outer bearing and race through. kind of a pita compared to other hub setups but it isn't bad once you know how to do it. :D

Yeah it sounds like the hub should come off now. You are right the bearing will not come out of the outside of the hub. Thanks for the help!
