I spent about 5 minutes searching, and did not find anything for wht i was looking for.
I have a guy, he wants me to move his TJ rear axle back. Looking at it, the stock gas tank need to come into the cargo area, about 4 inches high.
Is there other ways to do this.
He drives on the street and fuel cells are not ok for him.

There is plenty on this. Check P&T Jeeps' thread about what he did with his jeep and keep searching.

LOL look at the newb tellin him to search!!
If you would have read his post he is not doing the same thing as P&T did. He wants to stretch the rear without moving the gas tank.
From what I have read on the rear strech it looks like it may not be possible without moving the tank. Can you talk the guy into a front stretch? :p

What about putting a body lift on it and moving it up that way.
He's gonna have to compromise somewhere, a 2" body lift plus I'm sure that a stock TJ gas tank would not be stock 'up against' the body?
It might be tight.

That much body lift would not be enough. I have that much and still the tank is in the way. The only sure way is to have a custom tank built (smaller size), or bring it up into the rear cargo area.
The idea I have been tinkering with is to build a custom tank behind the seats that is protected by the body and cage.

The Curries has a custom tank on their new TJ back in April at EJS. I talked to John about it and he said they were going to make it available as a production piece. They basically utilized every square in between the frame rails. The tank sits level with the bottom of the rails. I think it held something like 15 gals.
If this is available it would work great for what you want to do because the piece I saw had clearance for a big pig.

regardless, the only way you can accomplish it is some sort of new tank or a relocation of the existing one. :D

Try to talk him into the rci2161 fuel cell that will fit behind the seat.
you can still re-use the fuel pump and his gauge will work correctly "sorta"
that little bit of cargo space isnt really worth crap anyways. I plan on putting a cover over mine so it will look like I dont even have a fuel tank. Then again I have been planning on dropping mine into the floor about 4" as well and that still isnt done

or you could relocate the axle anyway and let the tank self clearance itself :flipoff2:

Cut the frame before the bend and extend it like an unlimited. I am toying with this idea myself, cause I want to keep the rear seat too.

I called about the old 24 gallon tank Currie had and it was ~$1,500. Cool idea but I wouldn't spend that many bones on one.

If you really wanna be the man, you'll get some sort of light duty truck extra cab fold and tumble seats, move the gas tank up and build a whole lockable storage area with seats, gas tank, speakers, and upper mounts for 16 inch coil overs, oh wait thats what i'm doing. But on a serious note that RCI seems to be the best way to go if you want the rear seat. I'm not familiar with Curries stuff yet, but even still I don't think there would be enough room like that with a full flexxy four-link in the rear.

Who's the newb, he's been here longer then you...Maybe you could take is advice?
Anyway, is there anyone making a U shaped tank, leaving room for the pig in the middle?

You know I did search for about 30 min I read through a ton of posts but nothing of this type of question. The way that weldman is doing this is different than others have done it. :flipoff2: You know if searching is so easy to do why havent you posted your search findings????? :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

nevermind you are telling me to search but yet you dont have anything to add thats usefull. And for the record I am not "post whoring" as you put it I gave my advice just as you did.

No, THIS is an example of "post whoring (padding)"

I'm also about to start on this same process. I've been looking at different fuel cells and more recently just thinking about raising the floor in the rear to clear the stock tank. I'm going to end up losing the rear seat out of the deal, but I might try to work out something like said above with a smaller fold and tumble type seat. Have you thought about just raising up the floor and going with a seat with less padding that actually directly mounts to the floor? You'd lose some comfort (pad thickness) and wouldn't be able to store anything under it. Could probably also be done so that the seat bolted in with wing-nuts or some sort of hitch-pin type configuration.

It doesnt take much money to stretch the wheelbase, just a sawzall. :flipoff2:
