help!
on my way home last night, i shifted into 3rd, heard a bit of a POP and, then, no 3rd. tried 4th. no 4th either. still have the other gears. im new on this forum, but i am an old hand with jeeps and cars in general.
i suspect, even though ive never seen the inside of this particular transmission(AX-15) that ive managed to rip out the synch sleeve(the collar that slides back and forth to put it in gear). or possibly the shift fork. i can still feel the shift detent "clicking" into place when i try for 3rd or 4th, but it wont move the jeep.
ive taken out the fill plug to check the oil for metal sparkles. I found none, but that may be misleading. i also took the top off from inside the jeep... lot of good that did me, but on my CJ with its t-14, i was able to look down into the tranny, though this one might be similar.
any of yall had a similar problem? any thoughts on this one? do i have no other choice than pulling the tranny and taking it apart?. this jeep is my daily driver, so maybe its something simple/cheap. thanks in advance for your help.
