I am in the process of lifting an 86 GMC with a 6" lift, 35" tires, and swapping the axles (dana 44/ff14bolt). I want to know if anyone else had problems with the front u-joint (binding, etc) with the stock front driveshaft. Also, since I'm converting the rear diff from a 10-bolt to a 14 bolt, and using the 1/2 ton driveshaft, should I get a conversion(???, not sure about the name) u-joint, i.e. is there a u-joint that has a 2x 3/4 ton caps and 2x 1/2 ton caps?
Thanks for your help,

There are 3 fixes for your front Drive shaft provided it is long enough, (1) you can take a mini grinder and cut the stops back in your CV and u joint, this will stop the binding but decrease the strength and life span of the joint, (2) you can shim your transfer case down by putting spacers between the frame and crossmember, this reduces ground clearance in the center of the truck and in my opinion looks like hell. (3) You can call Jesse at High angle Drive line and get a properly made shaft for your application.

FYI - I used to use system #2 then switched to using #1 and will be going for #3 myself this winter because I am tired of screwing with it.

ok, so explain to me how dropping your case makes the Front shaft better? last i checked all it did was create more of an angle on it, since now it has to travel uphill before going down to the rear...

With 4 inches of lift on my '79 K10 I had to have a driveshaft made to keep mine from binding when I flexed it at all. I would go with a new one to save the trouble that comes with your other options i.e. dropping the t-case.

Thanks for the help, I'll probably try to shave the stops until I can gather up the money for a good driveshaft.
