: sidekick v. sammi weight difference
gipper 10-22-2004, 08:02 PM What's the weight difference between a stock sidekick and stock sammi?
Background:
My junk is too big for my wife. I'm thinking about doing a new project that'd be smaller which really makes me want to do a sammi, but she HAS to have an auto. The concensus here seems to be that that would be almost impossible to find. Sooo, I'm thinking maybe a sidekick on toy axles and 35's.
Squanto 10-23-2004, 08:07 AM not sure on the sammi, but a stock 'kick weighs in at about 2100-2200 lbs. Very light. I can push mine around the driveway pretty easy. :)

Yup, sounds loke a plan...
But you could put Scout or Waggy D44s in it. There is a weigth and width difference between those and yotas: See this:

The end result on that particular trip was me not having a picture taken in this spot, cause I didn't stop, but the white one took a little rest for a moment:

To be fair there are some diferences in execution of suspension that also played role in flop-non flop'ness of the two vehicles. But the bottom line is toy fronts are too narrow for the kick. You have to run spacers...
samiguy 10-23-2004, 08:25 AM it would be easier to put an automatic in the sami then to put toyota axles in a tracker

Sure but the other option is a lot more rewarding :smokin:
swampdog 10-23-2004, 10:00 AM Yeah but how do the tracker/sidekick automatics hold up to heavy wheeling. Are they strong enough?
samiguy 10-23-2004, 10:10 AM I have the 3-speed auto and it holds up and works perfect. When wheeling all day the temp guage barely comes off the pin. I have the Kicker3 so the transmission dosent work hard at all
szki272 10-23-2004, 10:37 AM I recall seeing some where that the kick (stock) weighs 200 lbs more than a stock samurai
dont recall where I saw it now.
bogger61 10-23-2004, 04:46 PM It's about 4oo# the sami 1850 from there book
Snakeman 10-24-2004, 12:01 AM I weighed my bone stock 87 samurai, no rear seat, 1/4 tank of gas, soft top. 1660# at the county scales here in town.
samuraijack 10-28-2004, 10:19 AM About 5-600 pounds... In case you weren't sure, the Sidekick wieghs more.
UZI 9mm 10-28-2004, 10:31 AM I weighed my bone stock 87 samurai, no rear seat, 1/4 tank of gas, soft top. 1660# at the county scales here in town.
huh. I wonder what Suzuki did from 1987 to 1991 to pork out Sammies by 400-ish lbs
My '91 lists at 2090 lbs dry weight, stock.
With stuff like skid plates, tires, bigger battery, tube bumpers etc, I'm sure it must be up near 2500 lbs at least, by now:fj:
SilverZuk 10-28-2004, 11:10 AM My samurai weighed 2400# with a SPOA 31s, 2 lockers, bumpers, winch, hi-lift, full size spare, and full soft top. No back seat or carpet.

1600lbs sounds way to low if the advertised curb weight is correct.
zukfreak56 10-29-2004, 11:40 PM my zuk weighs 2000-2100 lbs with off road bumpers 35's and dana 44 and 12 bolt so im guessing they weigh around 1800 stock... btw i have taken quite a bit of extra's off mine
flexmonger2 10-30-2004, 04:37 PM My rig must be extremely over weight. Took it to the open truck stop off the hiway and weighed in at their scale at 3200 lbs. With 1/4 tank, h.d. f+r bumpers, full cage, winch, 33's, and zuk axles, no rear seat, spare parts and tools. No wonder I break stuff, I need to trim a bare mininum of 800 lbs off of my rig. I guess I need not carry spares or tools or spare tire, but the beer cooler stays.
Snakeman 10-31-2004, 11:40 AM Granted the county scales are designed to weigh 60k + log trucks, not something so light. We thought it was low, but we weighed it 5-6 times, on three different occasions, and the numbers all came out the same. We even parked it sideways on the scale pad. No change. So we figured it was right.
Once it gets running again, We will find another scale, and weigh it again.
So what does a built trackick weigh?
bogger61 11-01-2004, 05:52 PM There isn't anything wrong with the scale, you are only lite by 150#.I think that some people are guessing at there weight,A good truck scale should be right,I have the weight for mine after each time I make a change,It started at 1920#
