I am having a hard time putting the starter back in on my 1.6 16V conversion. I am using the sidekick starter with trail tuffs adapter plate and it seems as though the front part of the housing does not want to seat in the adapter plate. Whats up? Has anyone else had this prob. Thanks, Bob

did you use the factory plate that goes between the tranny and motor as well ? the only plate between the motor and tranny should be the TT adapter. I tried both the 1300 plate and the 1600 plate before I called and was told to use neither

Yeah, I used only the TT adapter between the engine. It looks and feels like the little round raised portion of the starter face cone will not go in.

I used a home-made adapter plate and found I had to open that area up a little to get the starter seated right. Even after I got it to "look" right, I had meshing issues, and had to block sand the plate and stater face to get them to seat perfectly flush. It was a royal pain but it worked in the end.

It turns out that the starter was rubbing on the engine block at the end of the nose cone. I smoothed that out both on the starter and the block and all is good. Thanks :D
