Bought this today to work on a cage for my kid's go-cart. At $49 bucks it seemed like it was worth a shot.

Comes with dies for 1/2", 3'4" and 1" OD. It is really a conduit bender, but it is called a 1" OD bender.

So far the bends look OK. This is 1" .095 ERW tubing. It was a bitch to bend.

The rig is kinda neat for this kind of work. Has potential and I have 30 days to play with it or take it back. If I bolted it down and used a cheater it would be much better, we shall see.

At $49, it sounds like a pretty nice tool for those lesser jobs like bending up a small cage for a little go kart, or perhaps a welder cart, etc. Cool.

Although I am assuming that this go kart of your kid's is not incredibly fast or anything...

thats pretty sweet! Looks like real nice bends, would probably be able to make a pretty sweet gocart with that thing.

What is the radius for the 1 inch die? I need to bend up a bunch of 1 inch HREW tube with a 3 inch radius.

Looks like the 1" die has a 3.5" radius from the inside of the bend.

The part # is 43351 - I found it at the store on Waterloo in Stockton, never seen it on the sales floor before.

It says pipe on the label, but the dies ARE OD.

Needs some mods to work well with 1", I think. Here is the problem:

Ready to bend upwards:

Ready to bend down - limited to about 35" in length or you hit the ground and it kinks. Ask how I know.

The upwards stroke at 90 degrees.

By this point you have no leverage from the ground up, and it is pretty tough to hold the thing down while trying to push up and forwards. I am 6'3" and 220 lbs, and it hurt. I don't see how you could go past 90 degrees without bolting it down and rigging another bar to give you some leverage from a decent position.

Might chop it up and mount it sideways on a beam in the garage so I can use a cheater and get a decent angle on the bar.

I could not find it on the Horbor Freight site but they did have the one in the store here in Everett ( the display model that I snaped up ) I do not believe they have anymore coming. I would call all of the stores locally and see if you can pick one up or have them ship it to you. The 1" HREW that I have laying around does fit but it is a tight fit in the die a bit or polising is in order like anything you buy you get what you pay for but with a bit of work this is a cool tool for $50.

yurtle: you sure don't look 6'3" and 220 lbs in the picture maybe we are exaggerating a bit  ;)

What's a matter, David? Want a bender while waiting for your JD2?:D
I'll check at work tomorrow and see if I can dig up more info on this, and see if it's in the Kentuky whearhouse. Then you could call it in like a regular catalog order and it will be at your door in less than half the time your JD2 was *promised* to arrive:D

Anymore HF questions:question:
