I'd use a 1/2 inch lift shackle. 1 inch longer than stock. no bigger for a YJ.

81. This should be considered college level for wheeling Jeeps, so don't post kindergarden level topics.

well then. I'm planning to use 4" BDS wagonner front springs that are longer than YJ springs so I was wondering how much longer the shackels should be to make up for the added spring length and also to help with spring travel when articulating.

Well, that's something you probably should have said, say..... in your topic or original post.

Folks 'round here are good, but not exactly mind readers, mkay?:flipoff2:

If you are using a spring that is longer eye to shackle, you can't use a longer shackle to make up for the longer spring length. You need to move the spring or shackle hanger to the same distance apart as the waggy!

Stop this mindless flaming there is no need for it, if you don't know the answer don't friggin post, it is a waste of valuable bandwidth.

thanks. I figured out that I wouldn't need a longer shalckel with the longer spring wen I was playing around with my CAD program. Looks like the shackle will just have more of an angle to it. The thing that concerns me is that when the spring is compressed that the shackel will want to have even more angle to it. I don't want to mess up my new springs by bending them if the shackel runs of of rotation room :emb4:. Should I put on 1" lift shackels? I'm not going to moving the spring or shakel hanger until I get the MORE kit for the front.

I may be wrong but I don't think you want to even try and run it with the longer springs without moving the spring hanger, I bet when let it down on the wheels the shackles will go flat. I don't know how much longer the springs are but if they are more than an inch longer you will be SOL !!!

stock waggy spring have the eye out 1" further than stock YJ springs. Its hard to say if 4" lift waggy springs are the same length as stock. I don't think anyone has done what I'm thinking about to do. yjtj said he used the springs I'm talking about (I think BDS one) but he has them in SOA for full on rock crawler.
