The new truck has a mini v-6 thirdmember with dana60 axles. We made a flange that bolts between the 60 knuckle and the mini spindle. My thinking was 60 strength where it is needed, light weight where it is not. This way I get to keep the cross drilled rotors, and lighter bearings, hubs, and really cheap factory drive flanges. The adapter is 2.5" thick and has a sealed bearing to support the shaft. The stub axles are stock chevy 30sp the inners are resplined, but I am using the stock dana inners that neck down from 30sp(the ones that no one wants in their fullsize 60) I only have to remove the wheel and five nuts to replace a front axle.
I did not want to break birfields at an event. If I had not turned this truck into the new ARCA truck I would have kept the birfields, but this cost less than $500. I hope the rest of the drive train will be as strong.
Sorry for rambling on, the guys at my work are not interested in hearing about my new shiat.

Sorry about the pics. I am a half way good fabricator/welder, but know enough about my digital cam to push the button. I will get it figured out after I get the truck finished. Yes I can make more adapters. The knuckles I used were 75-76?? ford, they were on a housing with a non high pinion 60. The housing with knuckles was given to me. The next set will be made with chevy knuckles(six bolt spindle) I did the first set this way because it was cheaper and did not kill one of my complete d60 axles. I am not in the parts biz, but I do have some cool shiat on the new truck. I am like most of the hardcore crowd on the board I make 90% of my stuff.

Sounds pretty good. I am having problems trying to visualize it though. Pics would be a bonus.

Wouldn't it be possible to change out the side gears for a D44's and get some D44's axles cut to fit in there? I've heard of a few guys doing that for Toyota axles . . .

JackA, Jim and myself are signed up for the event in Florence Junc. The truck will be there, Mar/1 I believe is the date.
I am building another hybrid later this year with D44 stuff. I had D60 stuff on hand, so that is what I built first. I am getting closeon time, if I do not have the truck done I will have to run last years landcruiser. I would really like to have the new truck done. It has been fun building something different, but like every truck it has taken longer than I was wanting(I work 6-7days a week).
I would like to think that the truck will be cool enough(at least for the suzuki board) that one of you will see it and post pics of it(I still have not mastered posting pics, but I now have a card reader).

Wil lyour D44 work be done by changing the center or not? I have NEVER broken a R&P, just birfields, and so doing that setup would be way better for me. Just wondering . . .

Jason, sounds like we can party it up in Florence then. I am sure my "gang" of fellow wheelers will be there. Should be fun. And we can definitely post some pix for ya.:D
