It appears to be a 2wd sm465.
Check out advanced adaptors tech pages. They show all the commonly-used trannys.

http://www.advanceadapters.com/acrobat/gtrans.pdf

The code is a date code in the casting. The letter (A-L) corresponds to the month. It is followed by two digits for the day and two digits for the year. As an example H3061 is August 30, 1961.

Woodys tranny is a ten spline sm465....be careful to note that it gets rather $$$ to use a fine spline 2wd tranny with a AA adapter.

from the AA catalog is says "1968 to 88 2WD version use a 35 spline output shaft, which is easily adapted; howeverthe oputput shaft length requires it to be shortened."

sm465 to 35 spline trans.
AA part number........50-4901 3 speed t-case

AA part number........50-4902 4 speed case

I dont think you can use a plate adapter with a 35 tooth fine spline. IMHO

it's simple........ one PTO plate ..... SM420

two PTO plates..... SM 465.....

that's a 2wd 465...

I am pretty sure SM420 only had 10 spline output shafts.

There were supposedly some 32 spline output shafts on 50 series 2 ton trucks, but I have never seen one. You want the 10 spline.

I have a 34 spline output 420 in the shed...
Probably a 68...
Insides look identicle to older 420's but some shaft dia. are different.
I used a bearing out of it to replace a bad bearing in a 420 I am going to use in my 40.
Syncros etc look the same, but, I've heard that some later 420 parts are slightly different in size. (I'd measure)
Your tranny looks like a 465.
