I know I know this has been beaten to death and you are gonna tell me to do a search but I already have and I didnt get the answer I wanted. This is what I want to do. I have one trail rig and I will not be using this tool on a daily basis. I want to build a tube front end and a roll cage for my samurai. Just for the gratification of doing it myself. Can I use a cheap harbor fright :)
bender for this. I know by experience that thier tools suck and usually dont last but I cannot justify buying a $1000 tubing bender to learn on and to build one cage and front end. I read in the search about modifying the cheepy
bender to make it work good and I would like to find out more. Am I waisting my time? Should I just have a fab shop make me a cage? I have fabbed up everything from steering arms to power steering brackets myself why stop now.

Don't waste your money on that if you are going to use tubing (not pipe). Just buy a bender and 1 die. This should cost less than $600. I don't know what a shop charges for a cage, but you will probably come out even if you buy the bender and buy the steel to make if yourself. Plus, you get what you want.

And you walk away with an asset - a bender.

I've never considered buying tools for one job a bad investment. Inevitably I use the tool again, even if not for several years. Some people invest in stocks or treasury notes, I invest in tools :)
