Sheared off the bolts on the rear D44 yoke straps today. What do I have to do to go with the u-bolt style yoke? Drill yoke and use u-bolts? Replace yoke with u-bolt style yoke? Anyone know part numbers or anything to help me out here? It wasn't fun driving home 35 miles with a front Detroit locker! I was waiting for the big :nuke:

Just get a U-Bolt style yoke. There is a few on E-bay right now for $12. E-mail the seller and she will sell you 3 or 4 of em for about $15 each. BTW the D-44 yoke, D-30 and D-300 all use the same yoke. I went to all u bolt style for $48. The Yoke being sold out of Texas by Grinkids say used but from the condition mine arrived in it looks like they are disassembling factory sell out rears and selling for parts. Mine had slight rust but showed zero wear. All of the parts they sell say used but show zero wear and are about half the price of new.:)

got a buddy (james aka texasyj) who just drilled his, it held up. I've read that you need to mill the ends flat, but that might just be the 'right' way to do it...and we all know that the 'right' way isn't the most entertaining way:D

Thanks for all the info. I thought about drilling and using the u-bolts, but it looks like it would be too thin. Maybe it's just me, but I didn't like it. I'd rather spend a little money and not have to worry about it. Sucks when you're half-way up a double-hump rock climb and something goes :nuke:

I picked mine yoke up new for $25 and the Ubolts for about $5. Sounds like DTD has a little markup on those.


Get 3 and do the front and carry a spare.

I'd buy enough to do everything if I wasn't in the phase of getting everything ready to swap axles. I'm taking a break now from shaving my 14-bolt rear axle. :D :D :D

It was for the yoke, 2 u-bolts, and a new nut and washer so not that bad.

That reminds me... Should the pinion nut get replaced every time its off?

Seems like they get slightly tweeked at 175+ foot pounds.

I was going to replace the nut (and washer) just for my own well-being. Doesn't cost that much not to do it. Read your sig line and let me know what you think......... :D
