Has anyone here done this before that could help me out?

High Steer mods, adjusted pinion angle, and custom spring pads are covered.

What I need help with are going to be which shocks to use and where to mount them correctly. Should I go with a custom twin shocks? Front only or all four corners?

Thanks for taking a look and :beer: for those who can help out!

what're you gonna use it for? the chero is a pretty heavy vehicle, so dual shocks would sure be a good idea if you're going to beat the tar outta it.

my ol' waggy used to run singles on all four corners and i was alright; handled real well, actually.

I am looking for the longest shock possible so I don't limit my articulation. BTW, Do you know of anybody that makes a twin shock mount that will work with a DANA60 under my Chero?

Thanks WillyPete! Keith

twin shock mount? i have no idea... you could always fab a shock hoop.

shocks were gabriels. PO had installed them and i was real pleased. i wheeled pretty lightly, no hard stuff cuz i was mostly stock. just your basic mud, jeep trail stuff. didn't even break the np229 xcase ;)

didn't RB (off of IFSJA) make his own shock hoops?

its a shock mount x2 how hard can that be?!!

racnho 5012 and 9012 are the longest ones availble. ( from racnho and the other non super hi$$$ ones at least)

just mount them to maximize your availble up down movement.

the double mount is as simple as a flat pice bolted to teh frame rail with a square or bent tube upside down "U" shape welded ot it, and the shock mount tabs welded to the inside of the "U"

Jus buy a good quality shock, u dont need 2, specially for rockcrawling, thats for desert racer guys (high speed bumpity stuff), Im runnin 36s (hummer bias plys, HEAVY), on a not so heavy weld rim, and its perfect (stock soft as hell springs), my girl loves ridin in this, as opposed to any of the other lifted 4x4s Ive had!! I also inboarded the rear springs, its a little wierd on the road, I almost thought about doubling my shocks in the rear at an angle / \ to act as a swaybar almost, but, oh well.

 Weeeelll ... IF I am here asking questions .... :flipoff2:

I haven't done any modifications like this before so I thought I would draw from experience and ask here, in uuuuhh Jeep Talk. Ya know, that place where people ask questions and share info on mods they've done. helllllooo
I don't know what kind of :jeep: yer driving, but when it comes to a Full Size Chero you can't just run down to NAPA or a 4WP and buy a bolt on. It's all about fabrication bay-bee. :D I'm not just putting in a longer shock, but considering twin shocks, as well as having to figure out how to make it work right once i swap in the Dana 60 axle.
I DO like your ideas but maybe you would grace a green pea like myself with some kinda pics or drawings that show what yer speaking of? I was never good at word problems. So let me real ideas fly.

tigger... while you're at it, why not do a coil over swap up front? just a thought...

it's been a while since i've looked at FSJ shock mounts while thinking of modding them.... but i think you could easily get away with welding/bolting (rip it off of a junkyard rig and stick it on yours) a second shock mount in front of the stock one, and moving the axle forwad half the difference of the distance between the two shocks. or you could have a shock mount on each side of the axle, and space the shock mounts on the frame accordingly....

i think i need to go look at my chero to see what you're talking about. i'll get back to ya tomorrow, it's dark and i'm tired :D

Coils and links would be pretty kewl but the budget dictates what I get to do this time around. Once I have mastered the springs, more like once I have the money, I'll give them a whirl.

Ford shock towers....... $15 from the dealer
weld them to the frame ....wha la.
Do a search on the Toy board for more info.........

Those ford towers are used on everything, think I have the part # around here somewhere...

you dont really need dual shocks, you can plenty of dampneing in a single shock, unless you just want to double the costs.

the FSj alreay have toweres almost identical to the Ford towers, so thats not really neccesary, just do some test flexing and move the shock mounts on teh axle around to get the full travel of the springs/shocks.

the stock shock tower is bolte thru the frame rail right?

use a pice of 1/4 thick 4" or whatever the frame rail height is, about 6 inches long, bolted to the same holes the stock tower came from, and weld an upside down "U" to it, at a slight angle leaning "out", of maybe 1" tube , and then put the shock mounts at the top of the "U", Id be happy to sketch and scan, but I cant post here cause im a cheap ass., but there are several much better descriptions out there.

DRM has some on his site ( he used to at least) go and look there.

but again, I dont reallythink you need dual shocks.

Ill go and measure my 5012 9012s later if you wish, but I think the travel is 23 inches or so.

so you just want to split theat up or down, or what ever ratio it takes not to limit the potential movement of your axle allowed by the springs.

If you have anything else to suggest I would appreciate it. Keith
