A friend of mine has a 1996 Suburban with the TD and the 4L60E or 80E. Well it decided to give up the ghost the other day. He wants to swap in a NV4500.
Has anyone done this? I would think we could locate a pickup to gain all of the parts to do the swap.
Any help would be great.

A guy in our club just kinda' went the opposite direction. He had a 454 pickup with a th400 trans as a towrig. He bought a pickup with a 6.5L/4500 combo and swapped the trans between the two vehicles.

Never done the swap, but it sounds to me a bit complicated. Just remember, the ECM will need a reflash to avoid codes from the resulting lack of an auto to control. Might want to contact Heath Diesel and do an ECM swap with them.

I concur, Heath would be a great resource, but I recommend switching to MFI with a well-built pump, since you wouldn't need the Ecm to shift, and avoid the FSD, and electrinic pump, ecm, etc. You will realize better power at your contol, not the reflash.
Heath's Max-E-Tork reflash is absolutly great, but MFI is best for a hot rodder.
Heath can supply a mechanical boost control.
here is a resource...
