Reminds me of the early 80s at Pismo Dunes in my baja bug and my friends yota 4x4 p/us! Can you say, "S-shaped leaf springs?" Also bent a few rims that way, but it was fun. I don't jump my truck like that anymore, $$$.

DOH!

BTW, when you post linked pics...make sure we don't need a freakin' password to view them!!! Thanks.

Nice to see some good air pics, though. Brings back old times. Hehehe.

Not something i plan on doing very often but it would be a good idea for me to have Eric do that and some links front and rear. What a rush though. Lets see some of those pics.

I got almost three years out of my untrussed front end. On the third or fourth good air it broke.

Prior to that I wiped out one set of leaf springs and a transfer case n' adapter or two...

A little bit of air, cool...

Coming down...

OUCH, I hit the top of the second jump!

Now SMILE for the crowd..

http://tigger.tmcom.com/~tsm1/scout/jpg/racing/8_25_2001/pics06.jpg

How to get it back on the trailer like this..

http://tigger.tmcom.com/~tsm1/scout/jpg/racing/8_25_2001/14.jpg

The aftermath:

http://tigger.tmcom.com/~tsm1/scout/jpg/8_29_2001/dcp_0002s.jpg

Broke the diff housing. Bent the long axle shaft. Trashed the diff bearings, broke the carrier.

Bottomed out the driveshaft, broke the transfer case and transmission to t'case adapter.. ripped the hood pins out of the firewall, bent the tilt clip hinges..

I felt fine though. :D

Here's the video of

Just my BOO-BOO (http://tigger.tmcom.com/~tsm1/scout/jpg/racing/8_25_2001/384/tom_ouch.mpg)

and here's the

Entire Run (http://tigger.tmcom.com/~tsm1/scout/jpg/racing/8_25_2001/128/tom_obst.mpg)

Worst part was, I had a nice clean run until then - my GF told me DON'T BREAK IT.. she was up next.

Oops.

That was the worst part. :D

Thankfully I finally stepped up to a trailer last summer instead of tow-bar'ing my rig everywhere.. we used two come-alongs to make an "emergency axle truss" to pull the front end together enough to get it onto the trailer.

I have all the parts to put it back together, just haven't gotten around to throwing them under yet..

Next time, I won't lift and I'll clear the jump. :D

Writeup for the entire weekend (and more vids) (http://tigger.tmcom.com/~tsm1/scout/jpg/racing/8_25_2001/8_25_2001.html)

Cool. If you look closely, you can see the front axle kinda flops up and down after it turns smiley. Hehhehe.
