what's the consensus on replacing a busted bleeder on a drum cylinder?

yank the cylinder or use some some sort of easy-out?

either way, I hate brakes. Argh.

Using an easy out or reverse drill bit should work fine if you can get a bite in the fairly hard bleeder's metal. You also have the advantage of working at the fluid's exit, so metal shavings should come right out with the fluid pumped thru later with the new bleeder not yet installed. Also, the wheel cyl body is thick enough that you prolly couldn't damage it with a stray bit.

Now if the wheel cyl is, say, more than ten years old, you prabably should go new. That rubber in the cups doesn't last forever. Can't skimp on brakes.

If you want to go to a real bleeder, use Speed Bleeders (http://www.russellperformance.com/auto/brake/speed_bleeders.shtml). They seal using the coating on the threads that helps with sealing. One man bleeding rocks! :grinpimp:

I'd do the speed bleeders if I thought I was gonna keep and run this rig for a while. It's a winter beater Grand Waggy that I jsut wanna get running.

Going to see if I can fit an easy out back there without taking the cylinder out. Might have to make use of the kids and their little arms.

Well, in the process of removing the wheel cylinder to take out the busted bleeder valve, I managed to bust the end off the hardline.

So... it looks like I've got yet another line to replace. :mad3:
