I'm looking for a tool to clean up brackets etc that I cut out with a plasma cutter. I've been using a hand held 4.5" grinder forever but want something faster and easier.......and better for squaring up pieces and reshaping them too.

Currentlly I'm looking at:
Jet model JBGS-82 for approx 329.00
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00062NEZK/103-3991636-7246252?v=glance

Wilton 4200A: approx $1500
http://www.southern-tool.com/store/4200a_sander.html

and Wilton 4210K:Approx $650
http://www.southern-tool.com/store/wilton_4210_belt-disc_sander.html

I'd like to get away for the least amount of cash, but I'm willing to spend the cash if the tool is worth it and will last.

I'm open to other brands and even different tool all together if it makes me more efficient.

Dont know how much you are planning on using this but Harbor Freight has a 12" Disc Sander for less than 100.00. Probably would be good for a few hours a week.

*If you're gonna do it* do it right. I think the Jet unit looks a little small. I mean it'd be great for small brackets, but you'll find times when you need to do something bigger. I've got a unit with just a 2" wide belt and I love it, but it was free. It's only good for smaller brackets; there's just not enough room to move larger pieces around.

So, I don't have any personal experience w any of the models you listed, but I'd go for one of the Wiltons, or something larger than the Jet.

I personally have this unit at work and it gets used at least 5 times a day w/o any problem. I has been in service for about 4 years. http://www.wmhtoolgroup.com/index.cfm?area=shop&action=detail&iid=11778

We use ours everyday with metal. Its never seen a piece of wood. Look on
E-Bay, they have a nice used Delta thats going off in a few hours for a nice price.

I don't use it professionally, but I have been beating on the $100 HF special for about a year now and it has worked great. The only modification I had to do to it was replace the plastic knobs for tilt adjustment with some real hardware (table would tilt down over time). I never really had a use for a tilting table anyway. If you need a belt sander, of course, this woudln't work for you. I have since taken the bench grinder off my bench because I never used it anymore.

I have been looking at the ones from Travers: The 2" one is made in the USA and has a Baldor motor!

I have been looking for a belt sander for a few months now, everything on ebay is going for alot of $$ and freight is crazy expensive! Wish one would be within a days drive of me.

This wilton machine looks pretty good, i wish it was about $500-550 though...

What about just getting a peice of steel/aluminum plate in a circle however big you want it, get some bearings, build a stand/table and stick like a belt driven table saw motor on it? Seems simple enough but I could be missing something

yea we had one in the shop this summer, wired for 220. It still didn't have any balls, ate belts like crazy, and the tracking would never hold true. A lot of money for a tool that never worked right. If using it for metal you need to remove all the cover plates needed for dust collection, or it will start a fire.
