I saw this morning a scout 800 with what I thought was an owner swaped Comando top, But when I pulled up to it in the parking lot I saw the Sport emblem and there was stock strim around the back top of the bed to match the top and a stock insert to cover the gap between the tailgate and the back of the roof. It was a 4x2 scout and looked like an unmolested rig.
Anybody ever come across these before? I suspect it was an attempt by IH to boost scout sales. Looked wierd, cool but wierd.

Yeah, I've seen them before.... Me no likes...
is it a Jeep ( ) comando roof? I know IH barrowed/filched parts from practicely every other manufacturer but whole body pieces?
And no I'm not baging on Binders, I actually like the Scouts and old style travelalls, I just remeber my grandfather complaining about practicly needing to know what day of the week his 4x2 '70 travelall was built on to get the correct part for it.

It's a stock top, and IH didn't get it from any other brand. If I could post pictures here I'd put a few stock IH ads of the SportTop version of the 800 up, but anyway... and yeah, they're kinda retro-goofy lookin'. I'd rather just take the damn top off completely and forget about it between May and October.

well in california where every thing under the sun seems to have survived (i.e. not rusted away) This was the first sport top I have ever seen. The square wagon roofs are far more plentifull. Any Idea how many Sporttops were made during their run?

The first sport top I ever saw in person was in Mt. Shasta, California, where I grew up. I suppose they could last back east okay because IIRC, they are fiberglass, whereas the travel-tops are steel and tend to rust out.
