I've been looking my a$$ off for this bell housing.....
I need a bell that will house a 12" flywheel(14 1/8"tooth to tooth)...and a retainer hole that's 4-5/8" in diameter.
What vehical did this come in? thanks for any help.

Also ...what about the bottomless cast bell? They seem to be fallling out of the trees.
Will this one work? Can you use the t350 dust cover for the bottom?

bellhousing
Uhhh a 7:1 first/rev gear and they are bullet proof..maybe:rolleyes:

I've bought six of these bastards(they are cheap that's why).....I had a bell for a gm/buick so I didn't worry about it .
Now I'm doing a GM S.B. v8 swap and I'm having a little touble finding an aluminum bell that will house a 12" fly wheel...

I kind of figured the bottomless cast will work....my only concern now I guess is who the f%$k is hording all the covers?!!
And will they be big enough?
Ive' seen one one Ebey. Are there any after market covers that you know of?
How about those steel after market bells I always see on ebey?

Has anybody been through this scenario before....please no "how dumb are you" lectures...thanks for any help.

this thread has got me wondering now.

I have a SB 305 mated to a landcruiser 4 speed. I am collecting the parts for a 420 swap. I thought a sbc bellhousing would bolt up to a 420? My bellhousing is the cast iron open bottom. with a cover plate.........that will work.. right?

It depends on the retainer hole size....an sm420 is 4 5/8" OD on the retainer....
There are some bell housings that have a larger hole size that won't work(in the case of the aluminum housings)....
However I don't know if it's the same with the cast housings....I have not yet seen one in person. You should measure that hole before you buy.
The crack heads on ebay don't give you measurements unless you email them, so it would be easier if I knew a little about what they came out of.

The easiest thing to do is to go to the local junkyaed and find a '68 or earlier GM truck and take the cast iron bellhousing. It doesn't matter if it has a V-8 or a I-6, they use the same bellhousing. This will fit the 12" clutch and the 420, and you can probably find the lower cover there as well. I just pulled a 420 out of the pic-n-pull here yesterday that had what you need and there were two others next to it, so they're not that hard to find.

Thanks fcfred....I'll give him a call maybe pick his brain.;)
I can use my existing hydraulics, I'll just make another bracket
It is the those bottom covers that I worry about.
I sure would like to find a full aluminum bell. What guage steel are the covers made from?Do they get smacked alot? Do you run a 12"clutch and a 14" fly?
If the truth be known I through a cast open bottom away:mad: when I thought I would love my buick v6 forever....:emb2:
oh well that's the price you pay when you can't stand clutter.

Check out this thread on the Novak Adapters site:

I believe that the cast iron covers are covered in this pretty well. Also if you will check with a search I believe someone said the bottom covers are still available thru GM. But I found mine on Ebay, and I think it was the guy in Oregan you were talking about who had them listed. Here is a listing for them now on Ebay.

Oh and the rubber clutch arm boots are still available thru GM.
Hope this is of some use. Andy;)
