CheapXJ 02-02-2002, 10:22 PM send it to me. :flipoff2:
ihman 02-02-2002, 11:10 PM I was thinking of the waggy, I hear its a pretty easy swap. Plus I won't have to do the cut and turn thing.... I don't know I've been tossing it around...

What you been:smokin:, getting money back from the gov't is like sticking a piece of central pa coal up your arss and shiating out a diamond, its damn near impossible!! When I do get it back, its going to something important,....like my Scout!!:emb: ...:flipoff2: :flipoff2:
Scout Dude 02-03-2002, 12:17 PM Go with the waggy's if you can. Better hubs, a little wider, better pinion angle...
TERRA-IZER 02-03-2002, 02:44 PM I will be using my Tax refund check, for the EJS this year, i can't wait, maybe i can keep it right side up this year.
Chad H 02-03-2002, 03:03 PM I owe enough to buy a new set of Boggers :(

Yeah, I really been leaning toward the waggy's... I just don't want to blow it all in one shot. Oh well...at least I'll have the SOA I want.. :D

explaine this one to me??
If he's going SOA, then the pinion angle in the original doner axle doesn't meen squat. You will shim/grind/cut the perches to get the pinion angle you NEED depending on YOUR requirments (spring angle, arch, point at t-case, position... etc)
Same deal with caster, you will cut-n-turn to get what you need after you set your pinion angle (which most likely will screw caster).
As for wider?? The Waggy front I got here (and I know some are different) uses the same length shafts as my Scout ones.
Yes, the hubs are "better", but they are also 6-lug. So, unless he wants to convert, he would need Ford-style outers, or swap on his IH stuff......
Am I wrong?? Someone correct me if I am.
I *used* to think GM fronts were the way to go with a front SO, but almost as much work is required to get them to fit up as it is to grind a perch in a Scout one. Plus now you are trying to re-use the cast in perches, which can lead to comprimises, as I did with my SOA. NEXT version will fix that :D

Now I am far from expert on anything when it comes to suspension, I'm only going on what I've read...
But I was under the impression a cut-n-turn wouldn't be necessary with the waggy axles?
the waggy's are only suppose to be about a 1/2" wider on each side...
I did know about the 6 lug thing, but I'm going with waggy front and rear diff's.... Are the 6 lug's bad?

I think the theory is that the Waggy fronts have enough caster/pinion angle in 'em that you can set it up SOA with a degree or three of caster and still have the pinion pointing up at somewhere close to where you need it to be - without a cut n' turn.
I was just talking over this conversion with my friend Rich yesterday about his '73 SII.
He has a pair of Waggy '44s sitting there with nothing better to do.. and a SUA SII that likes to sink until the frame is on hardpack snow.

Scout Dude 02-04-2002, 06:55 AM You asked for the explanation and here it is:
Caster/pinion degrees: Yep. as mentioned, you can SOA and have both castor ( I had about 6*) and have th pinion pointed up. I don't remember how much my pinion pointed up, but I would guess about 4-6*.
The narrowest waggys are 61.5 wide with the 5 on 5.5 rotors. Some were 63" wide. I know that the driver side drop ones are 63" I "think" that some of the later pass side drop ones were 63".
Converting to 5 on 5.5: If you have the early waggy(small spindle), put your bearing that you have into Ford rotors/hubs. If you have the later waggy's (Bigger spindle) used Dodge rotors/hubs. Autozone had the rotor, lugs, & bearing hub assy for $37 each for the fors ones.
