i have the AA one, but wanna make sumthin that goes accross the bottom of ther frame so i could maybe attach a skid plate too. plus, it looks like a tight ass fit between my floor and the AA member. i was thinkin cut the ears off the AA and like trianguarly attach it to a bar going accross the bottom of my frame...
--- remember pics are worht a thousand words...feel free to email me some too. also, im really not lookin forward to droppin that t-case again. call me lazy...but gaaawsh!:rasta:
I didn't think there are any places on the SM420 for a crossmember to mount. Or are you talking about an adapter or t-case mount?

You do not need a load bearing cross member for a SM420 + transfer case like the AA unit.
Do something like Jimmy did for protection.
I have a 3/16" thick ConFer skid plate that is bent to hell.
Because of clearance problems with the body, my Altas is clocked all the way down, so I cannot do a flat skidplate. :(
No biggie, so far it has not cost me a climb!

geez nolen you really tucked that ATLAS way up there. I used a 2" X 1" inch piece of rectangular tubing and mount it flush with two pieces of 2" X 2" X .250" sq tubing bolted to the bottom of the frame rail looks like an "H". I bthe skid plate is roughly flat but at 2" under the rest of the frame. I am more concerned with driveline angle at this time then having a flat frame line. I may rasie it as I become convinced the Pinion bearing in the RC 60 will live above a 17 degree angle.
DC Cruiser I bolted my SM420/ toyota case onto the back of the transefer case with the AA mount. The only problem I ever had was a periodically lossing of the bolts and a gear oil leak. I ended up talking with Marlin and stop using gaskets at the transfer case mount and used a 5 MM peice of fuel line cut to fit in the groove of the TC. I thought it was kinda strange at first, but it worked so...

Do you have an oil leak on the tcase/tranny or tcase/AA mount?
I am having a B!@$% of a time getting my three speed tcase to seal against the aluminum adapter to the 420..

Jason,
I was having leakage problems between the Aluminum transfer case and the AA steel mount at the upper rear support bearing. I don't recall having a leak between the aluminum adaptor and the transmission. I don't recall having a leak at the transmission to the adaptor interface. I guess I was just lucky in that regard.
I also go into the habit of using a torque wrench to do the bolts I could to. Good luck oil leaks suck !!
