'Cause I think I broke mine. 4low, climbin a hill, got some air under the front end and it broke when it came down.

SOA, 35s, 3.73, auto.

Otherwise it worked pretty good. (other than crappy tires.)

Most times it's the short side inner that is first to go.

You sure you broke the Tcase?

Urban Wheeler

I just pulled the case off and this is what I found.

and the case. The case itself is intact, no cracks or breaks, just those chipped teeth. The bull gear is stripped. I should have another on one of the trannies in my shed.

Yup it's broke! :flipoff2:

Glad I could help! :D

But seriously that's kind of odd? Did you have some bearings going bad?

I don't think so. The only thing I knew of is my front d-shaft doesn't have enogh slip in it, I have maybe 3/4 inch of slip before it bottoms out, and it looks like it did.

Other damage from last weekend is two bent main leaves in the front springs.

Surprised you didn't blow the transfer case right off the back of the tranny. :nuke:

Either way, nice carnage.

That's how I always break 'em! Not enough compression in the front 'shaft, bottom out the front suspension, poke the t'case off the back of the trans. BTDT too many times.

I did manage to break a case w/o bottoming the front driveshaft.. had to do with side stepping the clutch to put on a show.. and boy, what a show..

Only if you don't build it right :D:D

I've been RS for many a year now, and haven't broken a t-case off the tranny.

Nice carnage Urban, looks like a severe case of shock loading.... maybe a freak occurrence... slap a new one it and stay on the gas when you come down.

When I was SUA I just had the local drive shaft Co,. make me a "longer" slip shaft, I think it had 4-6" or travel and worked just fine (I still have it, I should check).

With the 44044's and SOA it wasn't cutting it. So I used 32-spline PTO shaft and built myself a 14" travel unit now :D

What diameter 32 spline shaft did ya go with. Only one I am familiar with is like 2" diameter  Kinda heavy if you went that big, but you shouldnt break it :D

I've been using the same front drive shaft for at least 7 years now. Its made by a company called GLOECO. Looks like tractor parts. Has 16" of slip yoke travel  . Very heavy but also very heavy duty.

I originally ran a Tom Wood's 6.5 slip 'shaft, and it worked fine until I went and tipped the pinion up so it was horizontal, instead of pointing at the dirt.

I now have a Tom Wood's 14" travel front 'shaft and so far no problems.

That's kinda what I thought, but I don't remember the rear being off the ground at the time, just that the front was bouncing. There were reports of sparks flying, but I can't figure out where. Oh yeah, the front springs are bent too. :flipoff2:
