Is anyone running a "stock" wagoneer 44 in thier rigs. We picked up a front and rear yesterday from the junkyard for $100.00. Not sure how to handle the offset rear diff????? The axle is going on a CJ-5 project rig. Springs will obviously be outboarded and we are adding 12" in lenght to the rear of the rig so we will be gaining some driveshaft lenght. How bad will this thing shake and rattle if left offset? It is mainly going to be a trail rig, highway between trails!!!!!!!!

Posted yesterday in the JEEP forum with not much help!!!

Cheers

You could use a Scout 44, same width.

You have to try it. I ran like that for years without any problems, But I hear some people have a vibration.

I think we might, my Brother in law bought those axles yesterday, today he picked up a 74 Blazer with like new 38" TSL's!!! $700.00 took it all! Front 44 and rear is a 12 bolt. So we are starting to have a stockpile of stuff laying around. If nothing else it looks like the hub pattern is the same as the Waggy axles. We now need to make a decision, go full width with the Blazer axles or use the waggy axles and run offset??? I know were there is a CJ-5 frame, late 70's I think, it is factory boxed (rectangle tube), maybe I will pick that up and start building another one with all his left-overs!!!!!!!!:) :) :)

I say pop in a dana 18 transfer and be done.. heck, then you'd just be offset all arou.. or ya now, just go full width.. lol

We're swapping in stock waggy axles into a cj5 this upcoming weekend, gonna try to get it all done. I'll let you know how it goes, we're going to be trail testing it presidents day weekend

please post about the success of running one of these. We decided against it as we SO over the 5 and didn't add any length. It was hard enough getting a cv to work.

thanks arndog

I haven't seen a dana 18 transfer case, can someone enlighten me as to which side and how far the rear output is offset??? Passenger side I would assume!!! If this is what I need to make this setup work I will start looking for one for the next project, we got the axles cheap enough, might as well use em:beer:
