Alrighty, I'm putting together a class 2.5 reciever hitch for my AMC Eagle. (Yah, I know :flipoff2:, but I still need to tow my bike trailer, and the scout is in need of a major $$$ trasfusion.)

Anyhow, I think I know how I'm tying into the frame, and how I'm clearing the tank. My Q? is:
Will 3x3x3/8's tubing be strong enough for the cross piece between the frame mounts?

right now, I'm using 2x3x3/8's tubing slid inside the frame rail, welded onto the 3x3x3/8 cross piece, which is notched to recieve the 2.5x2.5x1/4 reciever sleeve.

Is this gonna work?? I feel comfortable in my welding skills, but i've not designed a reciever like this before.

Max trailer weight is about 2500 LBS, max tounge weight is 250 LBS
