: '79 Big Bronco Coil Towers - Where to Get them?

I tried the dealer but his database only goes back to '80. I'm trying to find the '78-79 ones as I believe they are the only ones the sort of wrap under the frame - kind of like an L. That and I'm not sure that the EB ones are the same diameter to accept the full size springs.

Does anyone know a part # for these things, a source to get them, or if any later models use something similar?

You can check with gubin on this board he had one that he was parting out.

65-79 F-150 coil towers are the same, I imagine the 4x2 and 4x4 ones are the same also which means 2WD f-250's and 350's should use them too.

there all over the junk yards. and they bolt om rather than the 80s that are riveted on so there easier to get off and i dont think it matters if you get it from a bronco or pickup there all the same

They are NOT the same! Bronco uses a separate shock mount from the spring bucket, the F-150 has the shock mount attached to the top of the spring bucket.

I have a pair of '79 F-150 buckets available. Shoot me a PM if you're interested.

jbg sells new ones....no bolt holes, either drill your own or weld em on. and they are pricey.

The ones at jbg are for EBs. I was under the impression that the coils for those are not the same size as the big broncos. Is this incorrect?

they will work we have eb and 78 f 150 ones on a ranger and they both accept either spring. All the old F150s have them Only the ttb f150 has built in shock mounts i believe.

edit: the only difference i noticed was the length of the retainer, f150 need a longer piece to bolt up or you can drill another hole

Thanks for the info. That should be a big help. I'm needing this and I know at least a few others that are interested in finding them too. X-references always help!

Do you happen to know around a range of years of the f-150s that have them? Anything later than '79 or was that the cutoff for solid fronts?

I'd really love to be able to find a part number but the dealers can't do anything with anything earlier than '80.

I think that 79 which was last solid axle is the last year of that type of bucket, anything with a radius arm suspension should have them. I found them in a junk yard and torched them off, I didn't need the total height so cut them down welded them onto a piece of angle iron with a wedge behind it to correct the spring geometry.
