your talking non crossover steering? People pound the ball out of one end and flip it over and put it back in. Don't know all the detials but do a search in the toy section.Have no clue what it'd be under though.

First of all, make sure he understands that he NEEDS crossover. 5" of lift is marginal with stock steering, and push-pull steering won't let the rig flex at all. And when the steering is limiting flex, that means it's binding, and will snap eventually.

Until he can afford it, you can probably get away with not using a dropped draglink by flipping the ball on the one end of it. Search for "dropped drag link/dropped draglink... flipped ball... drop draglink" and so on in the toy section.

Here's a thread I found searching for "flipped ball" in the Toy section that outlines what you need to do to keep his arm: Link (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4093&highlight=flipped+ball)

Has nothing to do with being cheap but if the correct drop link
will work use it. theve been using them before histeer was around
nobady complaind then ?

Dropped draglinks worked in the era of 44" tires and 6 shocks per axle. Hysteer came about when people realized that flex was good. Because stock Toy steering WILL break when you start putting flexy springs and long travel shocks under the truck.

It's pure logic: If you have 20" of wheel travel, and your draglink is only 8-12" long, it is traveling through one HELL of an arc as the suspension flexes. And because of the shape of the draglink, it binds against the steering arm if the drivers side droops a whole lot.

Usually, this breaks the steering arm. Sometimes it bends the draglink. But eventually something breaks:

Now, if he doesn't have much flex, it probably won't be a problem. But if he does, it will break eventually. The problem with crossover, however, is that it isn't cheap. If you can tap tubing to make steering links and fab steering arms with the correct taper, you can build it yourself. But buying it is pretty pricey. I paid $550 for the setup I'll be using on my Toy... but I won't ever have to worry about breakage unless I drop it off a cliff or run 40" tires.

Yota_san I can agree with the point if having alot of flex is there but in this case I cant see having 5.5" suspension with the max of maybee 3" drop when flexed causing a problem. With a drop drag link that is an already offset by 4" is'nt it a wash. took some measurements dry height spring to bottom of frame 9-1/4"jacked the pass. side up under the tire as high as I could get it with a floor jack and drivers side measurement went to 11-1/4 the rear of the truck is doing all the flexing and the drag link doesnt look
all that far out of line with no stress or binding I guess when it really looked bad was when the entire axle was just hanging
under the truck it gave a really bad apearence which caused some alarm
