I am going to pull my trashed 727 out and swap in a "runner" a friend gave me.

All the tech right-ups talk about marking the flex plate & torue converter to keep them balanced when you reinstall.

I am going to put on a NEW torque converter, How do I make sure it goes on correctly to be "balanced" with the crank & flex plate?

TIA

I would not worry about it too much. The new TC should be balanced. You could pull the flywheel, and take both down to a shop to be balanced.

It's not so much to make sure it's all "balanced" - it's that the flexplate and TC only bolt together ONE WAY.

What that means is you'll need to install everything, then rotate the crank so the flexplate has TWO bolt holes visible (one on either side, just under the engine block) and rotate the TC around until you can get both bolts in - if you're lucky, you'll have it right. There are two holes that you can get to start that will NOT let you get the other two bolted up.

In any case, rotate the TC until you can get all 4 holes to line up.

Also, make sure your flexplate's bolt pattern matches the new TC's! There's a small pattern and large pattern.

Some flexplates are drilled for both. If you don't check, your flexplate will be drilled for just one pattern, and it WILL be the wrong one.

BTDT. :D

damn,

sounds like I have to pull the old tranny and check the close/wide bolt pattern on the flexplat before I buy the new TC.

better add another half case of  to the budget

Can I tell by just pulling the cover?

Where is a good (read cheap) source for a TC?

maybe I should just be happy with only 3rd gear and reverse ..LOL

If you're lucky, when you pull the inspection cover you'll see both bolt patterns drilled into the flexplate, then you're good to go. :)

I got my TC from Gryphin with the transmission..
