mrreddog 02-03-2002, 06:49 PM i just bought a gm 14 bolt FF axle today, but after i got it home i found that the driverside axle tube, where it goes into the pig looks like its not all the way in. there is about a half inch from where the tube diameter changes to where the pig starts. the other side of the pig looks fine. here is the pics....please help...14 bolt (http://community.webshots.com/storage/1/v1/9/3/44/30590344cmpDnzLqFd_ph) this is a shot at the other side of the pig...good side of 14 bolt (http://community.webshots.com/storage/1/v1/9/2/82/30590282kQSTUjlYeJ_ph)

Scout Dude 02-03-2002, 07:23 PM Mine has those grooves on both sides but not as deep. Seems fine to me.
mrreddog 02-03-2002, 07:26 PM thanks TJOOP..
mrreddog 02-03-2002, 07:33 PM the one in the bottom pic is about 1/2 inch wide, the other side looks like its the same but in farther into the pig
it almost looks like the axle tube is out of the housing that 1/2" sure hope thats not the case.
WideJ 02-03-2002, 07:40 PM you could just weld around the tube to be sure... (yes i know its cast, but its possible)
mrreddog 02-03-2002, 07:43 PM thats what im afraid of......has anyone else seen anything like this??? does anyone have a measurement of a gm 14 bolt 10.5 rear axle so i can check it???
DozerDan 02-03-2002, 08:05 PM Thats what my 35c looks like. Except that mine is entering hte diff at about a 10-15 degree angle.
The guy I bought it from had welding ALL THE WAY AROUND the tube IN ONE SHOT and that weld cracked, broke and the tube pulled out.. bend and is pretty FAWKED up.
I'm still trying to find an axle to change over too.
Good luck
Dan
Scouter 02-03-2002, 08:48 PM That's typical for a 14 bolt; don't worry about it.
patooyee 02-03-2002, 10:20 PM That is typical. Mine is like that on both sides.

tigger4x 02-03-2002, 10:40 PM With the pumpkin being cast what can be done to help keep the tubes from backing out any further? Could you drill some dime sized holes in the cast through to the tubes and then fill them with a good puddle of weld? Iffin I have it figured correctly it would then act as a sort of retaining pin/peg. OR what about drilling and tapping into the tubes and using a bolt to pin 'em in  maybe?
