I will soon own a 1985 chevy 304 out of an el-camino. Its a great engine, being given to me by my grandpa (hes dropping a 350 in the camino). I have an 86 CJ-7, Dana 300 T-Case, I will buy the adapter and mounts etc. What do I need to know, and what exactly will I need for this swap. I'm thinking a ring job and Vortec heads on the 304 before it goes in. Anyone who has done this swap please tell me what I need. I get everything but the Carb. Even K&N intake. Thanx
:p

I think you mean 305.If you are planning to run vortec heads you will need a special intake, intake bolt holes are stright down, not 45 deg.like most small blocks. However you can get manifolds from GM.Vortec heads have no cross over,so no EGR. GOOD LUCK

You will also have issues with the bell housing, your current one will work with a 304 but not a 305 Chevy (like your getting).

I think you mean chevy 305(304 is a jeep motor). Now I had a 350 in my jeep and I took it off. You will need a new bellhousing from AA, motor mounts, new radiator(or change the ports on yours), flywheel from AA, headers or use the stock manifolds and you should be ok.
