: 62 scout axle swap

My friend just picked up a 62 scout this weekend. After towing it back to the shop (it had sat in a farmers back pasture for 10+ years) We discovered a broken rear axleshaft in one of the gimpy looking (model 27?) axles and after looking at the 28" tall tires that broke that axle decided these have to go.

My question: what axles will swap under there relatively easily? I have a set of CJ axles allready but we wanted to go spring over. We also plan to keep the model 18 T-case so something with an offset rear would be better. I looked at a few wagoneers at a wrecker today but didn't see any with disk brakes and passenger side front.

I have no problem with doing a shackle reversal, moving the leaf springs or compound driveshaft angles but would really like to avoid retubing axles or using a Z-bar. I'd also rather get both axles out of the same vehicle if possible.

thanks

Put some waggoneer axles under it. I think that some, if not all of the rear 44's were offset.

for sheer simplisity, go w/ the Scout 800 axles.
some are offset rear, and some aren't, but I know of a few guys that ran the offset T-case, centered diff for a few years w/ no problems. Downside: the front is only a D30.
