: Body lift
weezman1 02-04-2002, 09:53 AM Hey jeepers, i'm over from the Sami board:D :flipoff2::D ... I'm helping a friend out with is YJ... I want to know if there are any knick-knack things to take in mind when putting a 3" body lift on the jeep?? Such as steering, anything that needs to be lengthened, etc... Thanks
whatdaphuk 02-04-2002, 10:03 AM the main problems will be shifters and gas tank filler tube. THe kit should come with the adapter to put on the steering.
probably have to mess with steering shaft as well.
Jakesteramalamajama 02-04-2002, 12:42 PM You'll need to drop the fan shroud too.
redruM 02-04-2002, 01:02 PM t-case shift linkage as well
twistedspline 02-04-2002, 04:41 PM I cant rember if yj's are a hydrolic clutch or not. If they are not you will have to adjust the clutch mounting brackets a little
Insayn 02-04-2002, 06:37 PM Lengthen shifter stick, lower fan shroud, filler hose lengthened and DON'T forget about a longer brake booster vacuum hose. The t-case linkage should actually be attached to the t-case. If you have a console it may need to be moved back to accomodate the shift throw. The steering may need adjusting and I had to cut about 1/8 of an inch off the column because it made contact with my steering wheel.
rockr 02-04-2002, 07:45 PM if you REALLY want to help your friend-
try and talk him out of a 3" body lift!:)

Ditto.
An inch or so is fine, 3 inches is a pain in the ass.
weezman1 02-05-2002, 12:10 PM That's what i was trying to tell him! I'm not a big fan of the 3" body lift myself... Thanks for the info.
WideJ 02-05-2002, 12:31 PM don't do the body lift, you'll just end taking it off later on when he realizes there is better stuff out there

When I did the body lift, it sure made sense, but five years later the body has really taken a beating from that extra stress and I wish I would have lifted it the right way from the beginning. Mine is coming off in the next few weeks.:)
Victor 02-05-2002, 05:34 PM I'd suggest scaling it down to a two inch bodylift. not as much aggravation but still get a bit more tire clearance
JJeep74 02-05-2002, 07:01 PM I would mainly just watch out for body roll on a 3 inch body lift
bigdude 02-06-2002, 02:18 PM I have a 2", but only to allow for my flat skid. I have to agree that 3" is a little much, and for me 1" just wasn't enough.
However from helping friends with 3" ones I can tell you that your hoses and shifters will need to be lengthened, but your steering shaft should not be affected.

I had to mess around with my steering shaft and I only went up 1 inch. There's a slip collar on the shaft. youo just have to loosen a set screw, adjust shaft length, and tighten the set screw again.

Jake
