I was wondering if there is an auto/transfer case that is short enough that I'm not going to send the U-joints to too steep of angle on a 70 Bronco. It sure seems tight with the stock 3- speed ( the 2 1/2" suspenson lift doesn't help either)

Yup, the C4 that came as an option on the EB.

C4 can be found in many applications. if it's got a 302, the auto is a C4. medium to light duty trucks and early broncos are a good bet

go for the c4 it will be the same length as your 3 speed man so you will not have to change driveshafts any other trans will be longer except for maybe a high dollar powerglide 2 spd just about any c4 will work as long as you get the adaptor and 4wd shaft installed on it check wildhorses or jeffs bronco graveyard for all the parts needed we did this on my brothers 69 eb using a tranny out of a 75 mavrick and it works great ps get a big tranny cooler and a quality rebuild and it will last
