I have a 1985 205 from a th400 with the long input. Will a 2wd th 400 mate to the 205 I have or do I need to change the th400 output shaft. JP mag shows a 2wd th400 mated to an Atlas without changing the th400 output shaft. any similarities.
TIA for any info.
Mike
Just cut the output shaft to right lenght.I was talking to the tranny guy about this, this morning.

4WD & 2WD trannies are different, you will need to change out the long shaft with the shorter one. I don't see any way you can cut the long shaft and use it! :skull:

ok i will give you the skinny! if you have a 80-81 and older style 400-205 set up (with hour glass style adapter) you can use the short shaft 2wd shaft( about 4 or 5 inches or so from back of tranny) if you have the newer style with round bolt pattern adapter then your shaft needs to be real short about 1-2 out the back of tranny! Which is still not the shortest one which is used for the 400-203 setup and those are the basics. As far as an atlas i do not have a clue cause i have never had one or probally seen one in person so ?

Thanks BigBlaze for the info. I agree about the atlas...never seen one in the flesh and at those prices won't ever. My 205's are both off 70's 435's figure eight pattern or hour glass pattern. And I can find 2wd 400's in KC here all day.
Once again thanks for the info BigBlaze.
