I thought fullsize axles would stick out wider than that! Looks good though!

EASY,

How does you XJ hold up with out the hatch and front doors... did you do some reinforcing or something?.. I want to take my front doors off but i was scared that would be a NONO.. also whst full size axles did you use.... They dont stick ou that far at all....IT LOOKS SWEET!!!!! I was wondering because I have 10 inches on my XJ adn 36's and I would like to WIDEN it!!!! I already rolled once!:mad2: And survived!.

Milkman,

Ugly XJS are cool!

I think you should have said full WIDTH axles, not full SIZE axles.
Those axles are not "full width" (around 69"-70" is "full width").

Phil
With 64.5" axles on my TJ.

I think he runs back spacing that really pulls the tires into the Jeep.

That thing is sic, I can't wait to see it in person....I really want to see how the full width axles will work on my MJ. I will try and take some nice head on shots to really give an idea of the width over stock axles.

hey do you know of any web sites where someone has built xj with fullwidth axles I am looking for some front view pics so I can tell exacltyhow much wider it will be.

A friend of mine is building a grand with fullwidth and 37 ssr and custom 4link front and 3 link rear. Was just looking for pics for him. All of our group thinks he should cut them down, but he is dead set against it. Our trails are in mostly forest foothills and have tight clearence.

So those are >69" axles? Sure don't look it. What is it 6"+ backsapcing? :D

Running small brakes? Or 16" rims, or what? Easy - you have a web page?

Not to speak for him but I think the axles came from a F250 pick up. That would make them a 68-70"(?) axle or something like that.

An XJ is like what...60" WMS? With a wheel that really sticks the tire out there...I always screw the numbers on this so I'm gonna skip them  this means you only add 4-5" to either side, this means that is you change 2" in backspacing you only added 2-3" in width on either side of the Jeep. I think he runs a D44 so it's easier clear the calipers, just suck those tires in and you only gain a few inches.

I could be wrong but I think that is why it looks so narrow, I thought he was using chassis dually stuff when I first saw pictures.

Rear axle is out of a 79 F350. Front is out of a ??? F150 with chevy outers for the 8 lug. I've got a home built 3 link up front w/ full hydro steering. This summer I'll be doing a 4 link rear with steering. Sry. no website. Wheels are crap ass 16" 767's w/ 5" of backspacing. Tires are 37" SSR's (big fawkin' mistake). I had 3.75" backspacing on my original axles and the new setup only sticks out about .75" more per side.

I've done some subframing sort of, and have cutout my rockers and welded in rect. tubing. I've never had any cracks and haven't had my doors on for over a year, and I don't run easy trails.

why were the 37's a mistake??

first trip out i ripped half the lugs off the rear tires. I was in moab, not someplace with ultra sharp rocks. They stick to everything, and for the less than 10 miles I'll ever drive them on the road they're awesome. Shoulda gone ahead and bought the 38" SX's cuz that's what I'm gonna do now.

Oh yeah, FAWK cutting down axles. That thing ain't skinny, it won't even fit on any of the standard trailers out there. I was running trailer tires(even had to take off one of the hubs), but have since found a buddy with a homebuilt trailer that it just barely fits on.
