So I tried starting the T'all yesterday. It wasn't in the garage, but on the drive in a slightly nose-down orientation. Engine wouldn't catch, so I turned off the key. Engine kept cranking (yeowww!). Stuck solenoid - hop out REAL quick, pop hood to d/c battery. Least of problems! Gasoline pouring out of every nook and cranny and throttle shafts, of the TQ (this is a new bowl and fresh rebuild, so bowl not cracked), manifold awash, running down exhaust manifold also. Good thing engine didn't fire up.
First thoughts were of stuck floats, but somehow that doesn't seem just right. Took carb apart and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Brass floats fine. Can mechanical fuel pumps fail or go otherwise goofy and simply force out fuel at high pressure? Since truck was slightly nose-down for a day, I can't imagine that it could siphon out the carb (or could it? Won't the floats and fuel pump on a non-running engine prevent that?)
Anyway, I'll spend the $17 at NAPA for a new fuel pump, and get a new starter while I am at it.
