When the rig is finnished, thinking about going up to Kings beach/north Tahoe in the snow and taking the family to the snow, is there any good trails, or fire roads to go to?

Really the only good spots to go are is in Prosser at the pits. They are in Truckee and can see them from 80. Or you can go up to the summit and get stuck! Prosser has some nice dirt roads and if something was to happen you have a better chance at getting someone to help you

The problem is that most of the trails up here are usually gated. The usfs closes these gates usually after the first snow. There are some alternate routs off hwy 267 heading toward Truckee however. Just after the summit on your right is a fire road. Idont know when you are thinking of going, but it has started snowing early this year and traction is limmited there already. Prosser,Boca and Stampiede sound like your best bet.

what about on the back side of "granlibaken" (sp?) Dollar Hill?? Isn't that the back side of one of the ski resorts??? I have firiends who have a condo up there and we used to ride Mt. bikes in the summer.. note sure if they gate it off or not..

Both those spots are gated. Go run up to miller lake on the con you will have more fun and if it get to hard turn around.

There is a fire road that goes west from the top of 267 and goes into Tahoe City, not sure about winter access though.
