I've posted before without luck, but figured I'd try again. I'm looking for some spindles out of a live axle mini to make a full floating rear while I'm doing my disc conversion. Any one have any or any leads, Please let me know. Thanks  :D

Why not use drum brake spindles...

Good bearing, ample supply of used parts (spindle, hub, etc)

I should have a set of mini-spindles if you are 100% set on that direction, possible even the hub assemblies (no Aisin hubs however)

Lemme know...

I've already got the mini hubs and calipers. From what I understand, which is very little, is that the mini would be the best. I'll be using fj80? vented rotors. My friend Cruzila is helping me. If you have the mini spindles, I'm interested, let me know $ and shipping to 95633. Thanks for the reply :grinpimp:

Have you tried www.car-part.com???

drum brake spindles are a bit smaller. Why use them, and be stuck with 6 spline locking hubs too? To do that setup with drum brake parts is not nearly worth the time IMO. the disc stuff while not as cheap is a much better choice.

But better tech would be the cad for the adapter! and where to have the shafts made!

NO! and any of the current axle manufacturers would do fine. I used Dutchman. :grinpimp:

... and be stuck with 6 spline locking hubs too?.

Then bolt fine spline hubs on...

The drum setup is marginally smaller... not enough to warrant any strength increase IMHO.

When using the Toyota disc brakes, obviously the mini setup is the way to go, but if using a Chevy disc conversion, either will work just fine. A guy here in SLC just finished an axle using the drum stuff, works great...

Drum won't work as we are doing a disk conversion on the rear.

Not meaning to be a jerk, but you DID NOT say an OEM disc brake swap... Like I said, drum stuff works fine with Checy discs... :flipoff2:

Man I love that conversion.. Even if it involves cutting off part of the axle..
Someone needs to get one of the manufacturers to sell that adapter and inner shafts. :) :grinpimp:
Specially after watching 3 rears break in one weekend..
Would be a great kit! :smokin:
Break an inner rear shaft, unlock a hub..

I agree, we broke enough SF's to make the FF's pay for themselves.

Cruizila & Bad Coco, what do you estimate the total dollar amount of the conversion?

FROR is making the 40,60,mini conversion, but there price is nearly double what I paid for my OEM full-float... And shafts are easy to come by for mine.

However, I don't have OEM style disc brakes nor replaceable spindles "if" one were to fail... The inner axle/locking hub is equally easy for me to add.

The problem I've had with this setup is the hub. I have material to do several sets, but since I went to 37's the hub has failed numerous times. (yes, it is an Aisin) I welded and rewelded the inner pieces together and finally the splines were toast on the custom axle. Since then I have replaced the axle and drilled and installed 3/8 bolts and upped the dowel to 7/16. I didi this on the FJ80 flange and ran last year only a couple trips. I am not convinced of the bolts holding up. Although that is what the D60's are using, they have 8. This is 6 bolts and 2 dowels.

The axles are $400.00 the last time we made them. I think we got a Q for less than that recently. I am proud of the axles themselves. :grinpimp: No twist at all, holding fine as they are the same diameter the entire length. I worked up the cost a long time ago, so I do not remember right now. I first did this back in 1997 or 1996.

Yes I did. Still good info and I just wanted to fix something that was broken, so the next searcher would find his way easier.
