I know, I know, I should know this but I don't and I'm too lazy to look it up.:D Is it 8" or 8 1/2" or neither one?

The Books say that it is 8 7/8"......... same as a chev 12 bolt
All that i have measured have been a hair over 9"
but I have not had any really early coarse spline diffs apart .......

I was talking to a shop in Orange County about doing my ARBs and I just found out from my bud that they're a Heep shop. The seemed pretty capable I'm just waiting on a quote from them. He asked me if it was a 8 1/2" and I said I didn't know.

How come the book that came with my ARB says 8 7/8 ? It must be right cause I just had Gearman at River City Difs do the install.

The ARB is an RD08 and the Land Cruiser is a 73 FJ40.

For the past 3 years I've seen it referred to as 8 1/2", 8 7/8", 9", & 9 1/4"......

I got around to measuring mine awhile ago, and the OUTER circumference of the ring-gear, at the teeth side of the gear, is DEFINATELY 9 1/2"...... I should have measured the other side, cause the gear reduces down on that side, and that side might be 8 7/8".........

Yeah,

I did the same. The ARB and the Lock Right books both have different measurement for TLC Ring Gears.

Plop one down next to a D44 ring gear and it is noticably bigger.

Your measuring point will effect your actual numbers....I've always been informed they are an 8.875 ring gear (8-7/8")

I have also seen them referredto as 8.875, but there is no point on the gear that actually measures this. If you measure one to the largest point, like you do other gears, they are 9.5". I don't know where the 8.875 came from but they are much bigger than that.
