My dad has an 87 pickup with a 5 speed tranny. He lost reverse and I have heard it is some reverse module on the side of the tranny. Anyone know anything about these? How hard are they to install, what do they cost, anything to watch for? Is there a place on the internet that would have some pics or something so I can figure out what to expect?

Nissan tranny's suck! They are a real pain in the ass to get out too. The torsion bars get in your way. Best thing to do is take all the tension off the torsion bars and lower the crossmember down and put blocks of wood to hold it down. When you get done you have to crank the torsion bars back up and get an alignment. I paid $550 for a used transmission. You have to overfill them by a quart and use only GL-4 gear oil. Not GL-5! If you don't overfill it then the bearings on the main shaft will go out. I have had that happen and split fifth gear in half. Fifth gear is weak. Never had a problem with reverse.

Yeah, they say this is an esternal "module" The tranny doesn't have to come out to do it. The tranny shop wants $200 dollars to do it though, I am sure I can do it, but I would think there is probably some tricks to it to make it go better, or even just to get it in right.

Ok, you guys have no ideas? Is there any other Nissan boards that are good for tech?
Thanks
