Tracy Jordan, Jason Paule & Don Robbins set to race the Baja 1000

ROCK RUNNER RACING PRESS RELEASE:

November 10, 2004

Los Angeles, California – The 37th Annual SCORE International Baja 1000 is the season finale of the five-race 2004 SCORE Desert Series – the world’s foremost desert racing series. This year’s final race will be held November 16-20, 2004 as a rugged peninsula odyssey of 1,016.3 miles from Ensenada to La Paz, Baja California. Facing the harsh and remote Baja Peninsula environment for hours on end, the world’s toughest off-road racers are preparing for a journey of a lifetime.

2004 UROC Skyjacker/Toyo Pro-National Series Rock Crawling Champion – Tracy Jordan and his Rock Runner Racing teammate, Jason Paule, himself a 2004 multi-event rock crawling winner, have been invited to race the Baja 1000 in a quest for victory at the off-road desert racing premier championship.

Jordan and Paule will team up to drive Baja Challenge Car #1 over 350 miles of the 1,016.3 mile race swapping halfway at the BFGoodrich pit during a fuel stop. Each co-driver will be responsible for navigating the difficult terrain during the day and into the pitch black darkness of the Baja night.

Driving a fully-prepped Wide-Open Baja Challenge car, a purpose-built tubed frame off-road desert racing machine powered by a FAT Performance Type 4 Porsche air-cooled motor, Jordan and Paule will be put to the ultimate test between man and machine. Paule commented, “This opportunity is a once in a lifetime chance to do what very few people have successfully completed. As long as I can keep Tracy under control when he’s behind the wheel of our car, we’ll be crossing the finish line in La Paz. Many thanks to BFGoodrich and Rock On Motorsports Management, Inc., for providing this chance to race the Baja 1000.”

Rock Runner Racing’s Don Robbins, a well-known dual sport competitor racing motorcycles off-road and competing professionally in rock crawling, will compete in the over 40 Ironman Class as he will race the entire Baja 1000 on his motorcycle alone. Robbins has long been heralded as a tough hombre, but this race will test him to the extreme limits.

Jordan, Paule and Robbins will share the race field with the likes of NASCAR’s Robby Gordan, Champ Car’s Jimmy Vasser, Indy Car Veteran Mike Groff, and scores of veteran desert racers such as Tim, Troy and Ed Herbst, Alan Pflueger-2004 Baja 500 & Primm 300 Winner. Racing in the Baja Challenge class against Jordan and Paule will be Champ Car regulars Sebastien Bourdais of France (current points leader in the Champ Car Series) and Michel Jourdain, Jr. of Mexico, as well as the Newman-Hass team owner, Paul Newman, Indy Racing League regular Vitor Meira, of Brazil (2004 IRL Rising Star Award for Rahal Letterman Racing), 1985 Indy 500 Winner-Danny Sullivan, former Indy Car drivers Scott Goodyear and Roberto Guerrero and Pikes Peak Hill Climb record setters Rod Millen, Rhys Millen and Jeff Zwart.

When told of his challengers, Tracy Jordan said, “The boys that need to watch out are the Robby Gordons of the world. Once these pavement racers set foot in the dirt, everything will be different and with Jason navigating and me driving we’ll be in the hunt for a big win in La Paz.”

Denver-based Centrix Financial sponsors the Baja Challenge Class, which features 12 identically equipped, Porsche-powered Baja Touring cars all running the winningest off-road tire in professional motorsports, the one and only - BFGoodrich Tires.

That's what I was talking about. Sometimes your words get taken out of context, or readers obviously can't see your facial expressions when you're kidding.

I will tell you what was told to my dad and I when we went last year.

"I can't guarrantee that it will be a good expirience or a bad expirience, but it will be one hell of an expirience that you will never forget." -- Jeff Cummings, BFG

Good Luck Guys.

My first (and last) desert race was the Baja 2000. I would say I had a good experience because I lived through it. I grazed a cow at about 105mph in the cactus forest (40' tall cactus, everywhere), which was enough to swing my leg over the seat in a Nac Nac sort of way. The bike swapped a bit but I didn't crash. I still get the chills about what could've happened cartwheeling in cactus plants at 100. I also almost hit a few cars on the course. And there's nothing like going 100, getting passed by a class 1 buggy doing 140, and then not being able to see your own nose because of the dust. We got third but should've won the 250 pro class. I won't ever do that race again on a bike. Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted!

Mitchie,

I had you inked co-driving with Danny Sullivan...but then you made that BIG decision...I was hooking up the King Pirate and when I called him he was in Abbottsford, British Columbia on a Dodge Ram Diesel vacation...I'm sure you'll have your own Class 1 car next year...if not you can co-drive with Brittany in her Class 5/1600 car :D Trust me that's way scary.
