I know it is a width measurement, but is it from backing plate to backing plate? Or where?

And also, 9" guys, I know EB broncos are 28 spline Small bearing, what is the easiest way to convert to 31 spline BB? Can it be done? Or should I just narrow a BB 9"?

Me and my dad are building a 56 chevy, and looking for a different rear end, its too rare to find parts for (the bearings are 90$ fawking dollars each!)

Want to do a swap, but need to know what WMS is, so we can get a baseline and get an axle narrow enough, or have one narrowed.

The EB 9" came in both big and small bearing. You can get special bearings to put 31 spline in a small bearing housing. You can also get new BB ends for $80, but at that point it would be just as easy to narrow a full width rear.

One tip for yah...if you have to put "I think" dont say it...

Which EBs came with big bearings? Thanks for the help guys.

it does mean WMS. slang used to indicate WMS to WMS length, IE how wide the axle is.
my dodge dana 60 front is 67.5" WMS.

I knew it had to do with width of the axle, just wasnt sure where the width was measured from. :flipoff2:

Wheel mounting surface, usually between drum/rotor and wheel.

lol, sorry forgot to throw that in...its the flat place the wheel butts up against the hub/brake where the lugs come out
technical enough?
