: 1973 110 education needed
rogueturtle 11-12-2004, 07:56 PM Hey there Rover Crew, theres a nice 110 in my town that is for sale and im wondering what the downsides and upsides are for the 3.8 rover engine(conversion)? Is this an adequate engine for a 110 or is it lacking some grunt? (what does a 73 109weigh??) What are the common problem areas to make sure have been addressed in the overhaul that it has undergone? thanks for any info.
SlowRVR 11-12-2004, 10:11 PM They didn't make a 110 in '73 and they didn't make a 3.8 litre engine. So I would say this particulr vehicle has a few strikes against it right off the bat.
Black Mustache 11-13-2004, 12:03 AM what part of california and how much? :flipoff2:
kellymoe 11-13-2004, 12:30 AM Heres a 1973 110/109 in LA. Comes complete with rebuilt 3.8 V8 LT233 and LT88 previously owned by the Beverly Hillbillies
FrankenRover 11-13-2004, 07:05 AM I bet it has 3.55's in the diffs and has the airbag suspension as well. Are you sure it is not a P39 or a Series 4 heavy weight?

My money is on the Series IV.
portalrover 11-13-2004, 04:00 PM That looks like a regular 130 ''wheelbase twin cab. Definately weren't built in 73. probably 93. No such animal as an LT88. closest is LT85, but too early for 130's in Aus anyway. Some Australian assembled 110 cab chassis between about 85 and 88 were extended to 120 inch and had 3.9 litre 4cyl Isuzu deisels, LT95 4spd or LT85 5 spd boxes.
Bill.

No, they only made one of those, hence the name.

No it rides even now. Thanks to new suspension. Though it crabs down the road at the moment. I just put new ball joints in all the steering bits and it is a bit out of alignment. Guess what I am doing in the morning.
Pugsly 11-14-2004, 05:46 AM I always thought that was a great expedition vehicle. If I hadn't already had the 110 I would have seriously considered buying it when he put it up for sale.
I've ridden behind it on trails before, I remember it looking pretty bouncy / tipsy.
I'm sure you're having a lot of fun with it!
dhkcoatings 11-14-2004, 07:14 AM the car is probablly on altered vin tags! i know of someone up in toronto who brings 110's in from belize , all of these are illegal and on altered vins from series cars. i have been down that road my self! :smokin:

pendy 11-15-2004, 08:29 AM Yes bid it up.
rogueturtle 11-15-2004, 03:57 PM yeah its the 73 in Ca. that i was checking out. it seems its built on a 110 frame and caught my interest due to CA. smog rules and my interest in having a diesel pre.75 expedition type vehicle somewhere down the road without having to deal with the ever changing Ca. smog laws.
whats a rig like this go for? or can i expect to go for on ebay?
also what is the preferred tranny/tcase of choice for this engine setup?
how bout isuzu 4bd1-t swaps down the road?.......too much of a pita?
thanks mucho,Tim
dave93LTD 11-15-2004, 06:44 PM These (vehicles) make me want to vent. 1973 110? :shaking:
That's like saying: This is the hatchet George Washington used to cut down the cherry tree. It was so bad a shape I had to replace the handle, but then the blade shortly thereafter.
(Ebay Land Rovers overtly/covertly altered to be earlier models for importing etc.)
I understand the want to modify for improved ability, such as hybrids and ECR conversions.
I have a newer windscreen/roof on mine for improved visibility.
rogueturtle 11-15-2004, 07:42 PM .....just trying to find out info on the comparisons of a 110chassis versus a 109 and relative value. For us Cali people having a 110 chassis with a 73 title(body) solves lots of smog issues and especially engine change(diesel) issues down the road. My guess is that a 109 body and 110 body have some diffferences but the real ones come when comparing the frames-coil spring versus leaf as well as a few other drivetrain differences.
