Got a buddy who just bought his second sammi (after selling his first a few years ago and kicking himself since)
$200, with 70Kon it- in pretty good shape.

Wants to do an SPOA, but I have no info. I used the search which brought back some pretty vague results.

Are there any links that have a walk through of an SPOA? I am a cruiser guy, and there are a ton of sites with this for cruisers- i assume it is somewhat similar for sammis?

His goal is a low dough build up, have torches and welders, etc. the only money he wants to toss out right now is tires and a low t-case gear kit.

Here are the main questions. What are you using for perches? Do I need to cut and rotate the knuckle if he is going to a 32-33" tire. Aside from a drop pitman arm, and the drieshaft spacers, what else is needed?

thanks

It's pretty much like SPOA-ing a Toyota.
Don't forget the brake lines.

Spring perches boxed in to tie into the stock perches works best - the Samurai axle tubes are pretty thin

Bumper removal/trimming required, and pound the fender seams flat. Move the front axle forward some.

Lose the sway bar.

When you get around to those gears, make Sure you beef up the t-case mounts. And while you're at it, fabricate a rear traction bar, lest the axle wrap ruin your leafs (eventually, any way)

15x8's = Good. 2" rear backspacing Better.

The required items are pretty much the same as for your cruiser.

You'll need to go with longer brakelines (I've heard that some Honda ones work), longer shocks and you should make new upper and lower shock mounts. Either driveline spacers or extended slips may be needed.

Most complete kits use dropped drag links (called z-links in the zuk world). I ended up with bumpsteer on mine though so I replaced it with the Breeze crossover steering (which I highly recommend).

There are a few complete kits out there that include everything you need so look at what they include and that should give you a good idea of what you're in for.

spoa 1 (http://www.geocities.com/Baja/Ravine/3802/SPOA/SPOA.html)

spoa 2 (http://www.geocities.com/Baja/Dunes/1627/spoalift.html)

I used these two sets of instructions on mine, I found both to be very helpfull.

I would recommend buying a "kit" from one of the many Samurai aftermarket suppliers. This might seem like a cop out, but you'll get everything you will need to do the spring over correctly(spring pads, shock mounts, brake lines, driveline spacers, steering correction...ect) and along with that a set of install instructions. It depends if your friend wants to spent a little more $ and have everything he needs the day of the install. Also, He might want to think about what he wants to do in the long run. I'm on my third suspension and the $$$ adds up when you keep changing your mind about what you really want...my .02

Damn- I should know that. with all of the "nice jeep" comments my cruiser gets.

By the way- you won't see anyone in my cruiser group giving anyone with a zuk crap anymore. We gave a this same buddy crap til his little truck spanked us on a snow covered rock climb...:D

That's what I used all of you guys for. The YJ's were my first suspension that I put on mine.
